I've always been tempted to make one of these threads but I've never gotten around to it.. so, is there anyone out there that listens to Christian Rock? What are your fave bands/songs?

I've always been a fan of DC Talk, Jars of Clay and Five Iron Frenzy.. Newsboys is up there also.

But nothing can beat FAITH+1 ;)

let's keep this to pure music and not argue about God's existence or whatever, there's a thread for that in debates.

I always liked Avalon. I found their lyrics to be very thoughtful and the music good to listen to.
as well as NewsBoys. They are witty group. Like their Take me to your Leader and Breakfast Song. cool.

    FAITH+1 had their moment..

Five Iron Frenzy isn't really Christian. Sure, they obviously have Christian-themed songs (personal favourite Far Far Away comes to mind), but so do a lot of other bands like The Cranberries, U2 and even The Beatles. And I don't think any of us profess to call them Christian bands.
Time for my stupid comment: Christian rock is too preachy (but that is the point, isn't it?). I like spiritual music. I like songs with biblical imagery if done right. I enjoy it when a mainstream artist is willing to take a giant leap and make a religious song at the risk of jeopardizing their career in a secular nation. Still, I'd rather listen to something getting across the Christian message without appealing only to Christians.
I'm not going to get into my bit about religious messages and all that; you've implicitly asked that I don't do that. But still, the main message of Christianity is love and peace and all that, right? So why limit your audience by saying things like "Jesus Saves" everywhere? Bands like Santana and U2 manage to get such messages across, but they appeal to humanity rather than Christianity.

Of course, to answer your main question, I enjoy a good Christian song now and then. And I stand by my age-old argument that P.O.D. is the best Christian band out there.

Strangly enough, I some-what like Christian rock.

Mostly Relient K. I mean, they have a Thundercats song. But there is freaky, Christian death-metal out there... but that's odd, so I keep away from it.

huge fan of Christian music in general...

Reliant K is one of my favorite bands... met them a while back. very cool people to hang out with.
heres a little known band its called World Wide Message Tribe they're an aussie group, really good.
P.O.D. is one of the best Christian bands out there.
Bebo Norman is a really, somewhat folky sounding musician.
Five Iron Frenzy...now i did notice some debate over whether they're Christian or not...well when i talked to them about 5 years ago they were or atleast said they were. i accept them as a Christian band tho.
Jars Of Clay, awesome band...their newest CD is one of the best put out.
City On A Hill is a really good band, somewhat folky themselves...
Geoff Moore...ok muscian...kind of annoying after a while tho...
David Crowder Band, very very good band...awesome muscians...
Pillar awesome band...awesome guys to hang with too
    Tait good band,
DC Talk awesome band, sucks that they broke up
Concrete...prolly not very well heard of but an awesome example of Christian Metal.
Third Day awesome group did awesome on the "See Spot Rock Tour"
Newsboys interesting band...their music is kinda..."oldies" almost.

anyway...now that ive rambled my brain off im outta here...

whatever about their christian theme.. pod are not a talented group of musicians.

why is there no *real* good christian music? i really wouldn't mind it as a genre but all the songs and bands are alike! and so dull!

Creed's a Christian-themed band that's afraid to actually be Christian, as far as I can tell. They deny the Christian message of their lyrics in interviews all the time, but you can't argue with songs like My Sacrifice.

I'm growing to hate Jars of Clay with each passing day. These two friends of mine who live down the hall keep playing Flood over and over and over again, day-in, day-out. I'm getting a flood of Flood.

Novus, if I were you I would start playing some other Jars of Clay songs really loud like Fade to Grey. And Five Iron Frenzy is Christian(perhaps more Christian ska than rock), most of their songs give a Christian message. Most of them have Jesus Christ, Christianity, God, Mary or other references somewhere in there:
    Combat Chuck
    Farewell to Arms
    Beautiful America
    Dandelions
    Every New Day
    Everywhere I Go
    Far Away
    Farsighted
    Hurricanes
    Praise the Lord ^^;
Me Oh My, Fistful of Sand
    The Greatest Story Ever Told
    World Without End
    On Distant Shores
    American Kryptonite
    Cannonball
    It Was Beautiful
    One Girl Army

    and many more..

It annoys me a bit though when some Christian rock bands only seem to yell out "praise Him, praise the Lord, lalalala" and that's what all of their songs are. I like songs like "Fade to Grey" by Jars of Clay and Supernatural by DC Talk where I can relate to them as a Christian.. and I'm sure non-Christians could relate to them too. Now, DC Talk I'm pretty sure you could call them a Christian rock band with "Jesus Freak" and all :p

Actually, I heard Supernatural and thought it was the worst song to ever come out of the subculture of Christian rock and all that. It seemed too pushy somehow for me, like they were trying to force the song on me ... I don't know how to explain it, but I have to go now (on an entirely unrelated note ;)), so I'm not even going to try.

My first band was RAZE too bad Jmarc got into all that trouble.

I love listening to DCTalk - Supernatural. I have this music video called Tribute to FF8, it was just wonderfull.

Anyway I liked Modonna when she went on her little spiritual road trips. Other mainstream artists did stuff like that too. Which leads to the question of what exactly makes christian music christian??? The singer or the lyrics? Personally I don't care but the music can't be anything blasmph...oh

    Heh, sorry.
