    hi all,

i know dublin is a big city, and it may not work like my small country town.
but were i lived, we used to have a kind of "control" on what's showed on screen. So we had akira, ghost in the shell played (and the classics final fantasy, metropolis)...

but as lots of people enjoyed it, they also played shaolin soccer and the japanese version of ring and a few others things...

well, all that to say, is there a cinema where we could propose movies to be played ? i saw ugc spoke in one of their mag of extremasia but they didn't play any of these.
I think it could be fun to gather people liking such films / animes in a cinema...
well, anyway, if "some" (perharps a bit more as a cinema is expensive) people are interested, just tell it here...

i guess that if enough people are interested and a cinema accepts to play things (even if it's old, akira in a cinema, such a great experience) and see people in, they could do it again and again, for our best enjoyement ! :D

Sounds great, the most likely cinema to do this would be the Irish Film Centre. However, there are a number of practical considerations to take note of, such as the cost/trouble of sourcing the reel and then the need for the cinema to get enough people into the screening to make it worthwhile.

I know of a club called Horrorthon that show horror movies in a similar fashion, however, thats all I know, so maybe it would be worth contacting them to get some tips.

I know someone whose father is on said commitee, will ask about this. IFC would probably be our best bet here, says me also.

nice to see that i'm not the only one interested in such a play :)

and i wasn't wrong thinking the place where there are better chances to see it would be ifc.

well, now it could be nice if enough people were interested and if we were able to do it. i don't know any way to achieve it but if some people have ideas (Dredz ?) and need my participation, i'm there !

Sounds good, I'd say there's a good chance they'd show something like Spirited Away, if they haven't really.

I think the Screen on Dolier st. would also be worth consideration. Or maybe even the UGC. The more screens they have, maybe the more likely they'd have one to spare.

UGC rent rooms and screen for some companies so i guess it could be possible, but at what price ?

Else i don't know if coming and telling "hi, would it be possible to have this played" would be enough. I suppose they'd prefer something more constructed, with a possible number of people coming, which movie etc...

hey, here is another idea... a, i'm a kind of dreamer... I've been once involved in organizing a rpg convention. We had to get some space, advertizing, sponsors etc... Well we were helped by our faculty so it was easier and cheaper (room were free, printing adverts also, a well known shop helped us to have different games...)
but if we could do this kind of thing, with enough ads, perharps could we have a day to share what mangas and anims are with newcomers... we could have sponsorship with some shops, some stands ... ... ... and to conclude that day, we could have a play on bigscreen !!! and as there would be quite a few people coming, the cinema will see people are interested, and so they'll show some again, and then more people and ect ! (that's the basis of my plans to conquer and rule the earth... so i hope you'll help me so as you can become my slaves lol)

heu, i know, such a nice dream... let's concentrate on how to have a nice anime played on cinema !

UGC are moving into the IMAX building at the end of the summer, and will have 17 screens. They plan to start showing their asiaextreme series here too, which is good. its a deal with tartan in the uk, for the rights to show films in their their aisiaextreme dvd sereis. so thats all the miike takashi films, and then stuff like freezer and battle royale.

the idea of the 17 screens though is that they can start showing more arthouse films (do ifc out of their business), so there is a good chance of them showing anime, especially considering that most of the people in ugc these days are asian.
