Yes. Just think of how many lives could be saved!

The sheer logistical problems of such an army are overwhelming, however. For one, it'd take 18 years before it could actually serve. Second, during those 18 years, you would have to feed and cloth your troops. Third, during the actual war, you would still have to supply your troops. Fourth, due to genetic uniformity, they'd be much more susceptible to custom engineered bio-weapons. Fifth, there are plenty of health issues with clones now, since their cells start out pre-aged (in other words, if you are 18, and you clone yourself, by the time your clone is 18, its cells are essentially 36 years old). Sixth, theres the whole issue of robots taking over warfare.

I wouldn't bother with clones. I'd simply use machines - manufactured faster, ready to serve out of the factory, better accuracy, usually more durability, no loss of human life (on my part anyway), perfect loyalty.

This is of course assuming the appropriate tech exists. Anyway, assuming I did not have the tech for robotic legions, but the cash to fund such an army, I would simply recruit people that live right now and save money and avoid that nasty little bio-warfare vulnerability.

EDIT: For the love of God, stop adding criteria in a post AFTER someone replies! Anyway, if I had the supplies, I would either use those to supply a biological army of non-clones, or sell them off to buy more robot legions if the tech existed.

...Um. Yes I did. Look at my very first post. "Yes. Think of all the lives that could be saved!"

if you needed to be cloned for a reason............

if a person needed to be cloned for a medical reason, then yes i believe that they should be cloned, but for just for army men no. that armed forces can deal with that them selves, sciencetists don't need to clone army people to make more army men.

First of all, the betrayals are always due to at least these two things...
    1) Allowing the machines to gain sentience
    2) Failing to program in safeguard code (for example "IF Target = Human THEN Gun = Offline")

And as for love_boys_2004 reply, she clearly states that she believes in cloning for a medical purpose. It's not always a straight yes or no answer, cowboy.

A hard drive is a physical thing within the unit. If you mean their datalink, that could be difficult if one uses random encryption methods which change every, oh, say, 5 seconds (quite a while in a computers mind, not too long for a human). Furthermore, enemy communication relays would be among the first to go. Finally, there's "default" mode for when a datalink is severed, in which case the non-sentient would shut down until a datalink with the proper encryption is made. Any attempts at a hack would trigger a self destruct mechanism.

BUT we are getting off topic.

I think cloning should be allowed but of course permission should be asked before its done (kinda obvious). Also it would be impossible to create a clone army, I agree with Neph on the reason why it wouldn't work.
But for medical reasons well.... then wouldn't it just be harvasting. I don't think it would be morally right to simply use these people just as test subjects and organ suppliers. Because who is to say that clones don't have their own personality and when they become mature they would just lie down and be used. Also I wonder if clones would be given the same rights as everybody else or would they just be tools.
