Post the tips you have learned to make the food you cook better.

Here is a few I can think of off hand.

When cooking rice that isn't instant (and you have no rice maker) use more parts water then rice.

Add a little salt when you saute onions and veggies. It makes them sweat and makes them taste better.

I'll have more later. What are yours?

    My number one cooking rule:

Don't use plastic in the microwave. You'll regret it...

OOh, I forgot my other golden rule. If you plan to withdraw something from the toaster oven (or the oven), use potholders... and it might be a good idea to turn the device off while your at it.

I have to say you always need to do alterations to the recipe, and always try again, and again and read recipes thouroughly

Don't mix up baking soda with baking powder.

    Don't mix tsp with tbsp.

I don't think I've ever mixed up baking soda with baking powder but I've heard that it can cause explosions. But, the tbsp thing happened to me once when I was making these surprise muffins for my politics assignment on terrorism. They were originally supposed to be muffins with gummy worms in the middle but they ended up tasting really sour because I added in x tbsp of baking powder rather than x tsp.. they really were a terror.

LOL. Is this message due to me? I can't believe myself. I made batter for the fish and the fryer started overflowing and I didnt know why! but it was due to that, then the next time I vowed not to mix them up again and read the thing carefully and I still did it! but I caught myself after I had it in the bowl and threw it out and started over again.

anyways, my tip: Wait for Avocados to ripen before using them in sushi! but then again, maybe don't use them at all. I really don't care for them in sushi.
