Trigun Could they be related?

I know this is sort of a weird question but I was watching Trigun and it was the episode *SPOILERS* where Vash was recovering from his wounds after shooting that one guy with the white quote

In that episode Meryl was talking to this guy who wanted to shoot Vash and Vash was shocked with her words and he overlapped Rem with Meryl.

So this brings me to the point. Are they related? I'm curious to know if anyone knows the answer. Is Meryl the descendant of Rem or something?

 

No... Meryl just reminds Vash of Rem, because of what she does and stuff. I guess it's symbolic because I think Vash kind of looks up to Meryl, as he did Rem, and it shows how much he cares about her, which you can later see in Episode 24 - Sin (my favorite episode)

That actually makes sense. So then he really DOES care for Meryl. They become a couple I guess without showing it on the series.

Yeah I kinda found out early in the series that she liked Vash. She made it so obveous. But it was cute though.

But I was kinda thinkin too that they might be related but I wasn't sure. Wasn't there this one guy still alive who was related to Rem though? (I can't remember)

OH...okay. See I knew that there was somebody that was alive related to her. What was his relation though? Was he an uncle maybe??

I can't remember. I'll need to rewatch that episode and then I can tell you. I think it was her uncle, but not too sure.

What info would Vash want anyway?
