Video Games Current System Wars!

Recently in a game thread, we started talking about consoles and such, but I felt it like spam. So let's make this thread to duke it out.

So it's really simple. It should be a debate, but it's also more of video games, so I'm putting it here.

Anyways, let's try to make a point, which current console is best!? Don't include the PS3 or GC Revolutions. Because all of that should be an IF.

    Here's my take on consoles.

GameCube:It has potentials, but it only goes on kids.
X-Box:A more mature system, more superior in graphics, when it wants. Online play is superior, but it doesn't come in cheap.
PS2:Awsome games, online play is fair, but it's cheap too!
PSP:This one too has potential. There's not so many games for it right now, but it could get more....maybe?
GBA:Huge library of games. You just need to have the games for it to be fun.
Nintendo DS:Relies more on games than hardware, but it's a good thing really.

    Word on this?

Gamecube indeed has a lot of potential, but as Baphajim and I have talked about before it's library is truly geared more towards the kiddies rather than towards adults. Still, it's the only system to have a game that genuinely weirded me out and give me a bad trip (Eternal Darkness- Creepy, wierdest fuggin game evar)

X-Box has Halo. Really that's the only thing going for it. Most of the other killer apps for it are on the other systems as well. Mech Assault is other X-Box game that made the system big, as well as online play. While these games were enough of a reason for me to buy the system (as well as Chronicles of Riddick) they're really not enough to keep it alive. X-Box live is the best online thing to ever happen to consoles, but with the advent of people modding thier X-boxes and blatantly cheating it's losing its luster.

The 360 is pure, unadulterated, cr*p. There's no games out that are worth forking over $500 just to play. I'll wait until Halo 3 then maybe consider getting the 360.

PS2 is probably the best system on the market right now simply because it has the games to back it up, its reliable and dependable (as long as you dont take a sledge hammer to it), and it's still fun to play. The library is so diverse and wide it would take you years of straight playing to get through them all. With the addition of it being backwards compatable with PS1, the PS2 is a landmark system and had made its place in the annals of gaming history.

PSP- Yes it has potential, but right now it's not worth the hefty price tag. There's no games out there worth forking over all that money for.

I agree, Gameboy Advance is a nice piece of hardware with the largest library of games ever. The GBA plays well, handles well and is an all around great asset. If you dig handhelds you can't go wrong with the GBA.

The DS is a little bit more limited than the GBA. The DS plays GBA games and that's it. No original Gameboy Games and no Gameboy Color Games. Still, the DS is a portable N64, which is nice, and if they increase the library of games it will become that much more better. You can't argue the pricetag either, which is much more manageable than the PSP (this being the main reason I believe it to be superior to the PSP).

I still love the Dreamcast, and even though it is dead I will remember it with fondness always.

Agreeably, Playstation 2 is probably the best although at times, often times, GameCube and Gameboy Advance are my favorites. Playstation has perhaps the largest library and widest variety of games out of all of the systems... it's really just that simple. The games for X-Box that are X-Box specific usually aren't all that great in my opinion (I mean.. Halo? Just another first person shooter. Get something new guys)... I was interested in KotOR and KotORII but I'm not sure if you'd consider those X-Box specific since they're on PC as well.

To me X-box could have a lot more potential if it just had more games like halo...

The PSP is good if you know how to work it...I'm talking about the music, videos, photos, if you know how to work those you'll have lots of fun...oh and buy a bigger MB stick...

The Gamecube is fun if you have A LOT of games...with this system they don't really have a game that you can stay on for a long time...

The Nintendo-DS is a fun touch screen system that you can play for long time if you have the right games...(oh and a bit of advice if you drop your DS in the water, get a new battery)...

..Oh and one more thing I talked about these systems because I am talking from Experience!

I could speak from experience too I guess. I've come to own all systems. Not at the same time, but still owned them at some point.

When X-Box was released, it was breakthrough with Halo, since it was fun as hell, but it kind of died for a while. Then in 2003, the game demo was shown on E3, which even I can admit if it were like that, it would have been the best game ever. Unfortunately, the demo was nothing like the game. Nevertheless, I still bought the Limited Edition Halo 2 pack.

I belive I only bought a GameCube though cause it was the cheapest at that time:

    X-Box:$200
    PS2:$200
    GameCube:$160

To those of you who don't think GameCube has the best graphics: Resident Evil 4 is often considered the best looking game of the PS2/GC/Xbox generation. It was originally made for the GameCube. When it was ported to the PS2 they had to take out a lot of trees and bushes, the textures got messed up, the lighting was different, hair didn't look right, etc. Meaning that the GameCube has better graphical capabilities than the PS2. The only competition it has is with Xbox. But Xbox doesn't have any games that compare to Resident Evil 4. So the GameCube is out on top.

Yes, although the graphic capabilities are indeed impressive, the lack of space in a disk makes most games short, or repetitive. Also, Resident Evil 4 looks better on GameCube because they were just lazy with the translation from a GC CD to a PS2 CD.

Also, that's the ONLY good game GameCube has had so far. All others are kids games, or games you only need to rent.

That is so true. :D The only problem 360 has is the lack of games. You know what, people gotta lay off. It hasen't even been out for 3 months. Not many systems had that many games within that time.

The Gamecube... RE4 is its only major killer app. Everything else either has "Mario" or "Party" in its name. The Metroid series is actually not that bad, it's the Gamecubes less fun version of HALO. This, so far, is teh only console with no online capabilities, which hurts it a lot.

The Playstation 2, great console. Tons of games, so many great trilogies, and you can't say its online capabilities hurt the system. Games like SOCOM, Jak and Daxter, Rachet and Clank, Prince of Persia, etc. The list goes on and on. A very good buy, and it won't burn a huge hole in your wallet.

The X-BOX has HALO 2. 'Nuff said. X-BOX has the graphics capabilities of the PS2 and Gamecube put together, x2. Its online capabilities really make this system shine and puts it in a big race between itslef and the PS2.

There's my views on today's major consoles.

If that's the case, then why did the PS2 version have a lot of extra features?

Post that here or here and see what happens.

    What really makes X-box shine is like shijin said...the x-box LIVE(with halo2)!!!

When you combine this with Halo 2 you got a kick-butt, go for days with sleep system...:D

That's exactly what I meant. GameCube can't hold that much. For instance. Enter the Matrix. Crap game, long levels though. It took one PS2 disc, but two GC disc, and the GC didn't include the extras...
I don't even have to go to know obviously to it's a gaecube lover site. It'd be like going "Halo 2 sucked" on the Bungie site.^^
Weird enough though, X-Box LIVE needs super fast internet, or it WILL NOT work. I use a wireless device for my PS2, and games online work fine, however we tried Mortal Kombat Deception and Halo 2 on X-Box (1 on 1) and MK didn't work, and Halo 2 lagged.

So in short, between X-Box and PS2, X-Box is hardcore, but you need money to make that hardcore stuff work. PS2 doesn't go any back, especially with backwards compatibility with the PSOne, and it's also a lot cheaper.

What I mean is, if they were too lazy to make the graphics look right, why would they add a lot of features? And making the graphics like they were took away memory usage so you can't use Resident Evil 4 to say the PS2 discs hold more memory than the GameCube discs.

Actually, the first one is a Nintendo based site that is just about to change to a multi-console site. And most of the active members have an Xbox or Xbox 360.

And the second site, is already a multi-console site. Although the people there are very rude so expect flaming for just posting. >.>
