Ever since we met Sasuke in the third episode, we knew he was fated to be Naruto's competitor. Back then, it seemed that Naruto could never reach Sasuke's level -- after all, Sasuke was an elite Uchiha, while Naruto was an orphan; Sasuke was popular, while Naruto was a pariah; Sasuke was Konoha's best rookie, while Naruto was a failure. But now, after two years, Naruto has finally caught up. In every sense of the word, Naruto is worthy of being Sasuke's rival.

Still, even though we've waited for more than a hundred episodes for this very moment, it somehow seems . . . disappointing, as if there's something vaguely anticlimactic about this whole encounter. On one hand, it's great to see Naruto finally come into his own element, but it's quite unsporting to see Sasuke treat Naruto as an unwanted usurper, instead of recognizing him as a valuable asset to Konoha's strength. During the Tsunade-Fifth-Hokage arc, we've seen Naruto risk his own life repeatedly for the sake of his friend, and after all this, it seems incredibly boorish to see Sasuke trample this trust with disdain.

Besides all this, it seems the plot development is racing forward on full steam -- it's great to see Shikamaru finally promoted to chuunin, but it also seems that Orochimaru's forces are once again on the prowl. Evidently, the next few weeks will be intense, and it's anyone's guess where this series will take us.
