Just as pointed out by BluWacky, Matthew, and Momotato, this title by IG Production is a superlative tale of whipped dreams and wonder.

From the start, Windy Tales reveals itself as an unusual fusion of anime genres. On one hand, the main character Nao is endowed with supernatural wind-controlling powers, but she seems worlds apart from the shonen world-saving / air-elemental hero Rumina, star of Tokyo Underground. On the other hand, Nao is a fair-spirited girl in high school, the lair of choice for shoujo villains everywhere. Given the stark difference between shonen and shoujo, one would think that this title would rip itself in two by trying to accommodate both genres, but instead, Windy Tales emerges with a feel that is wholly unique.

As a case in point, it's endearing to see how this series depicts one of anime's classic elemental powers. Unlike titles like Naruto, the ability to control the wind isn't used as a means to an end, such as a powerful air-based attack. Instead, the protagonists seem entranced by the *instrinsic* nature of the wind, and revel in the ability to fly, to soar, to float.

In the midst of this shonen-packed season, Windy Tales seems to have a sense of innocence that is truly one-of-a-kind. When you couple this aura with gorgeous sketch-book illustrations reminiscent of the works of Roald Dahl, the result is pure magic. Without a doubt, it'd be a disservice for any anime fan to miss out on this remarkable title.
