    Case Closed

Cartoon Network is airing a new Anime and I like it. Wanted to know what you people thought of it.

    Story:
Jimmy Kudo was a famous teenage detective who wants to be like his idol Sherlock Holmes. But when a mysterious organization knocked him out and gave him a drug that was supposed to kill him... instead he woke up and found himself shrunken to a seven year-old. In order to track down the men who did this to him, Kudo hid his identity and lives with his childhood sweet heart and her father. Her father is a hopeless detective. Kudo is now known as Conan Edogawa.

I haven't seen the episodes they've been airing on Cartoon Network, but I have seen a few episodes of Detective Conan (original title for the series). From the summaries I've seen, I have to say that I'm disappointed and somewhat frustrated with how they Americanized everything, even though I can (sort of) see why they did it.

I hope that they stay faithful to the spirit of the show, at the very least. I'll need to check it out.

I have seen Detective Conan too. It's pretty popular in China, several mangas and novels have been published there. Anyway, You all know how CN destroys the anime over there. Nordic CN doesn't even have anime on Toonami so :p

I've gotta side with Shadowbard here. It's more pointless localization - there was no logical reason to change any of the names, the show title, etc., and that's always an immediate turn-off for me. Makes me wonder what ELSE has been changed, you know? And since I've not seen the original, I'm hesitant to watch something with shows evidence of heavy, unnecessary alteration.

For example, I believe that "Jimmy's" original name was Kudo Shinichi, wasn't it? They kept the surname, but not the first name! Now, I ask you - where is the consistency? *sigh* If they can leave the names in Inuyasha alone, I don't see why things needed to be changed here.

I noticed when I looked up more information that names where changed. I wonder what else is different.

I've seen a quite a bit of the series on Cartoon Network, and for awhile I wasn't sure whether it was an anime or not (it sure appeared to be one, but the names were definitely American), so I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread! (I suspected they'd Americanized it, but I wasn't positive). Anyhow, the show thus far has been pretty decent, but what disappointed me about it was the fact that it's fairly episodic - even though there's a consistent mystery awaitng Conan, the course of every episode is as follows: mystery discovered, mystery solved (usually villain is just misunderstood person who's executing revenge on the victim for some heinous crime committed in the past), story over. That and the fact that the characters seem rather static, but it's still fun to watch once in awhile.

I like the series. It’s much like the Sherlock Holms books. And i really like mysteries. The only thing i don’t like is that I think the main story plot is kind of corny. The whole deal with him being turned into a little kid, doesn’t fly for me. I like to watch it because of the murder cases and such and how they solve them using key information and thinking outside the box.

The animations okay. . .their ears are HUGE! XP

Perfect example of silly localization: there's one episode that I caught part of where "Jimmy" has a special, portable phone and fax made to look like a bento boxed lunch - rice and various other foods in a tray with little compartments. In the dub, he refers to the fake rice (with what I assume was an umeboshi on top) as "cottage cheese with strawberries" or something like that. ~_~ What the HELL difference does it make if it's rice or cottage cheese?

Absolutely needless. It's that kind of localization that bugs me - the stuff that really could have been left alone.

I love the show! It always keeps me guessing. The only problem is that its not the type of show that you would view a second time since you already know who did it and stuff. But like i said before....a very great show.

I actually can guess who the killer is about 75% of the time. 3 times out of 4.

I must admit that it's fun to play along and try to guess "who did it". By chance, did anybody happen to see part 2 of Rachel's dad's (can't remember names) highschool reunion? I saw Part 1 but forgot to tune in to part 2, so now I'm curious as to who the culprit is. So...can somebody please spoil it for me?

I love Case Closed. Im usually not into mysteries. I like how the mystery isn't so easy to solve. You can pick the most obvious suspect but then it turns out to be someone completely different.

    Case Closed? Jimmy Kudo? I hate Cartoon Network --;

It's original name is Detective Conan, and I've seen up to part 2 dubbed in my own language (arabic), and the main character's real name is Shinchi Kudo, but after he got shrunk, he knew that no one will believe him, thats why he changed his name to Conan Edugawa, and the only person who knows about his true identity is the professor. It has been a very long time since I saw chapter 1 and it's first episodes, so I hope I didn't mess up a little there.

Detective Conan happens to be one of my favorites anime all time, a very great story and well drawn. :)

    I like it alot.
I'm not very pleased at how they've cahnged everything to make it seem more like it was set in America, but I usually forget about that during the show. I'm rally into that kind of stuff, and I like how they add a little romance in there inbetween the cases. Sometimes I can even figure out the whole case. :D

^.^ I saw that too. I was exicted because I missed the first week or so, so I never really saw Jimmy as Jimmy, but as Conan. ^.^ I hope it stays that way.

    *possible spolier*
Do you think maybe it's because of that drink that other guy gave him? Or maybe that poison stuff wasn't permanent?*

    *End spoiler*

Does anyone here know the original names for the characters?
