A genre of its own? I got this thought from rewatching Jupiter Jazz last night and I think Bebop did become a genre of its own. It was different than any other animes at the time and influenced the popularity of anime and future creations.

I do Believe it has.. I mean there is a quote somewhere where it mentions that.. Cant remember or find it for the life of me..

Anyway its kind of brought the idea of Space and Western together with a mix of Jazz and blues from the 60's...

And are other anime influenced by it.. Hell yes there is an Ep of Outlaw star where the lead character dressed up in the same get up as SPike.. the intire ep was like a tribute to Bebop if you ask me...

Haha, I was just watching a Cowboy Bebop DVD yesterday and it had that quote on it. What a coincidence. It's either on Jupiter Jazz I or II.

'The work which becomes a new genre in itself will be called....Cowboy Bebop."
it's right before the credits for Jupiter Jazz.
it's certainly become an influential series. but i think i'll need to see more stuff built on the style (and more importantly maybe, a live action film with the same style) before i'd say it's started a new genre.

On my case, the Perfect Sessions, on the inside it says:

"And this new style of art will probably be called 'Cowboy Bebop'."

I wouldn't call it a 'new Genre', that just sounds like boasting from the creators to me...

Regardless CB is a work of art, the textured blend of music and animation, combining Westerns, Space-age and (key phrase) Noir. Western and Space-Age was done with Trigun. CB adds a smooth, rythmic Noir element to it, which gives it its distinct flavor. It was so well produced how could it NOT stand apart from the others?

the show Firefly, Movie Serenity.. that series and its movie is based on Sci fi with Western flare.. Did the creator get influenced by Cowboy Bebop.. Maybe.. Maybe not..

But None the less Cowboy Bebop Is a masterpiece in itself..

on an interesting note many westerns are adaptations of old samurai movies.

anyway Bebop is.... i would say genre-less.

its a single anime therefore i dont think it can be given its own "genre" especially since nothing before, or since, has EVER hit the anime market quite like Bebop.

The whole space anime thing has been played out until it was dead... and i mean DEAD.

Cowboy anime were a bit rarer but still not impossible to find.

But Bebop.... was a collection of so many different things from mainly, america. Not the modern world of today.... but the smokey bars in a back alley in the 40's with someone's sax wailing into the night.

theres more.... dare i say, culture, in Bebop. There so much more than just a simple anime here.... you have film noir and bebop/jazz... references to Hoarce Silver and the Jazz Messengers... so much more is at work in this anime than most anything ive ever watched.
