I used to play it a lot. I played it mostly over the LAN in my dorm. I still have it, and play against PODBot occasionally. It is really showing its age though, especially online, where 'l337' ch34ters reign

I usually play those "specialty" maps now. Y'know, fy_iceworld and stuff like that. They're just fun because you get like...30 second rounds.

I've been playin' for about a year...and I still suck!!! Actually, I just found a new favorite gun. So if you play online, if you get scouted by N-Stant Ranma...:D

Oh yeah, in case you didn't know...I play CS. Lots of CS. So much it's freaking embarassing.

You really don't want to play online at your home unless you have cable/DSL/T-connection. Cuz if you don't, you're most likely just going to have really high ping and really laggy playtime. Best places to play are gamerz places because they usually have high broadband capabilities and LAN matches.

And PODbots are enabled while you're playing. I think. I've never actually used them before, and I want to use them now. Trouble is, I can't find a freaking realiable server to download them from.

If ya don't know what they are, they're just what they almost sound like. They're bots, not real human players but pre-programmed...errr...bots that you can play against if you don't want to play online or are incapable of doing so.

Anyway, I just came back from around 2 hours of CS...and I am totally relaxed and unstressed from homework. Yeah, I *could* do something else...but it's pretty satisfying to shoot people with AKs.

I used to play CS, but because I have stupid 56k and I kept on getting booted, so I stopped playing that (Both on-line and bot) I now play, nothing, I rarely play any FPSs now.

and Izzy if you want to dl the bots try Fileplanet.com, that's where I downloaded the same bots you're looking for

The characters are meant to be rubbish Kenster. The only forward moving plot in ANY CS game are two sentences.

    "Counter-Terrorists win."
    and
    "Terrorists win."

Yes you should be able to play, and I don't see how you aren't able to. That's really strange.

Yeah, installing it should be a matter of clicking .exe files...it should self-extract from there, right?

I think Kenster was talking about Half-Life (off topic but hey) in which case he should imho put on some asbestos underwear.

I like not having loads of cutscenes. i like that fact that everything happens from your point of view. It helps immerse you in the proceedings.

A bunch of explanation of Gordon's character would also be detrimental I think. That would make it harder for you to BE him. You are meant to feel like it's YOU in there (willing suspension of disbelief and all) Buncha hokey story would take away from the experience of being a scientist running aroun clueless about what is going on. I mean say you see grunts shooting scientist and think aargh! what's happening! then get a lovely cutscene explaining why it is happening. beh

Half Life is sweet, easily the best game of it's time, and the game that inspired a thousand knock offs (red faction say) Half Life led is from the dark ages of Quake, where there was precisely no character interaction.

Oh well, who gives a crap. Kenster, keep making broad statements, we're all entitled to our opinion, however weird

Ho hum, and it was so much simpler back in the days of Doom. No real plot, you just pointed and clicked (unless you were using a keyboard).

The storytelling and character development in a FPS will never reach the dizzy height achieved by say Square and Final Fantasy but some effort is always appreciated. Single player FPS games have moved on a bit from Doom and Half-life is a prime example of this. The cinematic scenes really do add an immersive atmosphere to it.

CS and Q3A are multiplayer games. You don't need character development or plotlines for that, just point and click.

It could be your registration key...but I don't really see why that would be a problem either. The CS I'm running is a copy too.

To play Counter-Strike online, you have to download the newest version of Half-Life and of Counter-Strike.
You should download the patch to upgrade to CS version 1.0.0.5 and the patch to upgrade Half-Life to version 1.1.1.0

Once you have these two things, you need to have a valid CD-Key that nobody else is using...
When you have that working I recommend you download the All-Seeing Eye from http://www.udpsoft.com/eye to search for the fastest game servers in your area...

I havent played CS in ages, but it can be a really fun game IMO :)

Dude, 1.3 was freaking...GONE months ago. The newest right now is 1.6, so you gotta get that.

And you don't just put any number to play, there's a number that comes with the CD-jewel on the back. It's long like a serial number, that's the key.

And you can change it by going into windows, clicking start, go to run, and type in regedit as your command. This brings a pop-up that should have your CD-key on there somewhere...if you put one in that is.

Actually the most recent version is 1.5...
It's hard to get a CD-Key from the net that isnt being used. You could ask someone with the full version of the game to lend it to you, or maybe buy a copy of the game, as it is really cheap now

Errr....okay. I knew it was something over 4, but i deleted the .exe as soon as I installed it. :p

By the way, the new jump sucks. The mp5's too accurate, and the colt got even suckier...in my opinion.
