I found this site while doing a google search on some anime. The prices are REALLY REALLY good for these "import" region-free DVD's. Has anyone bought DVD's from this outfit? I'm guessing that they're selling bootleg DVD's, because the prices are just too good to be true. Anyone have experience with this outfit?

Check out http://www.dvdpricesearch.com/cgi-bin/dvdsearch2. They search at every DVD online store you can think of. deepdiscountdvd is always near the top. I don't think there's a real catch to the DVD itself, actually. I almost bought from them once, but I ended up paying cash for it instead.

Check out dvdsoon.com too. It's pretty good. It doesn't get many stars in the dvdpricesearch ... but...well, I haven't been disappointed yet.

Hmm, lessee. I bought my Dirty Pair Flash Volume 1 for somewhere around $18.99. My Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 Box Set was $47 dollars.

I saved like, 3 bucks offa MSRP for Dirty Pair, and the going price for BGC2040 is (at the moment) 60 flat. So, I ended up saving.

You can say that. Shipping was free for me. I don't exactly remember the stipulations for that free shipping though, so...yeah. The $18 dollar disc had like, a two dollar shipping fee...since I didn't want to spring the 5 dollars for the 3 day ship. So, I still paid less than MSRP. *shrugs*

_Maron_Kenshin_ what's that got to do wiv dvd's?????

I tried to buy stuff from DiscountanimeDVD, but they would accept credit card and wanted sepret e-mails for orders outside the US.

Shadowhawk got the Steamdetectives DVD from them I think, and it's fine, exept the subtitles are literally translated into english from Chinese, so the grammer's all messed up.

But I found another website, can't remeber its name though.
But its catch was that it took forever to arrive!
    Oh well, nothing's perfect I guess...

Actually, there is a catch to discountanimedvd.com.

THEY'RE NOT LEGITAMENT DVDS!! They are mostly Hong Kong bootlegs, which are indicated by the discs which are mostly region-free and have Chinese subtitles. I have a friend who bought the Noir series from the site, and the subtitling is horrible - not just in translation but also in visual quality. There are times where he can't even read the subtitles on his TV.

I've watched bootlegs of Yami no Matsue and Fruits Basket, and the Chinese translation to English was obvious (which The Jackal points out below). Not only were some of the names blatantly changed, but grammar mistakes were abound (which is extremely distracting to me when watching anime) and there were times where it was difficult to extract any type of coherent storyline from the dialogue.

Of course, decent bootlegs probably exist and you may get a good deal off of the site. But if you are buying dvds from the site of series/movies that are already released in your country (or soon will be), THE COMPANIES THAT BRING ANIME TO YOUR AREA LOSE MONEY. And the less money they have, the less anime they can bring.
