    Dragon Drive

    Licensed by: Bandai
    Number of eps.: 38
Recommended viewing audience: Ages 7+ (cartoonish violence, very mild language)
    Genre: Fantasy / science fiction

    What it is:
A young boy by the name of Oozora Reiji can't seem to get his act together. He's lazy, he fails in school, and he's earned himself the nickname of the "Tardy champion". Things seem to be going downhill, until his good friend Yukino Maiko shows him a place he never knew existed: the arcade known as the Sea Palace, home to the most popular video game in existance, Dragon Drive. It's a virtual reality game that puts the player in a virtual city known as the D-Zone and allows them to battle each other with their own unique dragons. Reiji meets his companion, a small "sleeping dragon" named Chibisuke, and somehow, miraculously, defeats his first opponent, a boy named Hagiwara Daisuke. Reiji immediately gets into the game, and pretty soon, it's all he can think about.

But all is not right. Someone is trying to use the players. The truth is, Dragon Drive may not be as virtual or harmless as it's made out to be...

    Rating: 10 (out of 10)
    Explanation of rating:
This is definitely one of, if not *the* greatest show I have ever seen. The plot twists among plot twists will quite seriously leave you guessing until the end just what is going on. There's enough sub-plot to branch off and form its own show. The music contains some of the best score I've heard in any anime to date. Every character encountered is important, and they're all dynamic enough that by the end, you feel as though you had met them in person. Don't let the age recommendation fool you: this show has something for everyone.

Very nice review, and I'd have to agree with most of the points you made. I'm a relatively large Dragon Drive fan (Thanks to Baphies, actually), and I'd easily put it into my top 10 anime.

Actually, I wrote this review a year and a half ago. ^^; Also, it was for the anime. While I'd love to get my hands on the manga, it's not been published in the US outside of Shounen Jump, and then, I can't find the issues (Published some time between 2000 and 2002). Oh well.
