I love D&D, although I very much prefer 2nd Edition.

Also, Hackmaster is the spiritual successor to AD&D. D&D 3rd Ed is just completley different.

Played since the original edition that was filled with rule charts for almost every little detail, then 2nd edition which was a nice refitting of the original rules, and now 3rd edition, which has a completely different feel, but is a lot more "user friendly".

I avoided 3rd for a long time, as I'm very opposed to change, as some know. But after playing it for some time, there are a lot more mechanics and stylings to it that I appreciate over 2nd.

Not that I've abandoned 2nd. After all, those are the only core books I own, and the version I have the most experience with.

As for my track record, my DMing far outnumbers my Playing time.

    I agree with Hildi!

*sticks her tongue out at Kenny* Just because a person hasn't played D&D doesn't mean they don't know how to rp. You've known me for how long and how many rp's have you seen me in. *stands up proudly, hands on her hips* I think I'm a pretty good rper, and I've never played a rp game in my life. So... *sticks her tongue out at Kenny and pulls her eyelid down slightly* Nyah! *looks at Akali* You'll be joining some rp's here I hope? I do admit that playing rp games should give you a good point up on some people, and show your talent. *glides her fingers through her hair, smiling* Unless you're just born with the talent. *laughes maniacly, but ends it with a cough, choking out* Water...

OOC: Alakai! Sorry, I spelled it wrong and this damn computer won't let me go back and fix it unless I delete the whole thing. *kicks computer repeatedly*

I guess thats one of the reasons the guys and I don't really like 3rd ed. It just feels dumbed down, and sometimes we even used THAC0 as a screening process to keep out morons.

    Actually...

One year, I only got a 43% in math. The next, after playing AD&D 2nd Edition and games using the Palladium rules, I came out with a 93% after trying again. And I was pissed at that, because before the exam I had 94%. D&D (and Robotech) saved my education! Thank you, geeky hobbies!

And that's the hidden beauty of it. Most things boil down to quick checks and the game can fly a lot easier and focus on events, story, and rping rather than "Roll initiative and add your side modifiers and weapon speed. Okay, what's your ac? 3? Alright, if my thac0 is 16 then I subtract 3 from that to get 13 and I roll a 12. damn. just missed." we get "roll a d20. roll a d20. ok, I missed." ^^

But as I said, they both have their charms.

Personally we never had those problems... the DM knew all our THAC0s and we had modifiers summed up on our character sheets.

I've never heard of D&D the 3rd edition. I've played it with my brother as the DM (along with boot hill), but we only have all the old school stuff, books and lead figures from the 70s (my bro even bought the full collection of the first edition, paperback manuels before I could get to them). Its fun, I head a lot of people say it's evil (including some teachers), but I really don't see any harm in it. Probably the only bad thing is that we've started a new one were i'm an evil guy (one of those Drow elves) and gonna be battling humans and good folk (sometimes, it's good to be evil :D ).

We never dealt with food either. It seemed like much more of a hassel so we'd just plunge right in with the battle and mayhem.

I am at present DMing a 3E campaign, having not DMed before and not having played at all in a long time. I played a bit of 2E, but the DM was ****, I've also player Warhammer Roleplay which is fun. I'm a better DM than the others I think, but I might be better still after I finish reading the rule books.
