If say that a manga series is published, but it's not being translated into English fast enough for your liking. Would you just go ahead and buy the Japanese manga in pure Japanese? Or would you settle to wait for the English translations?

I buy the english versions, simply because I can't read Japanese and there's nowhere around here that sells the original, untranslated manga. Although, in rare cases, where a series is of really, really high quality, or means a lot to me, I'd want to get the originals as well, for completeness sake. I don't think I need to mention the series I'm referring to here. ;)

I have some copies of japanese Yotsubato!. Yes it's hard to read, but it's the first step of learning the language.

And English Manga? Have around...96 books. All bought yes. So basically, it's all a matter of taste. I sometimes buy japanese manga, sometimes english. But currently, it's only english...for the moment ;)

I dont actually enjoy manga a whole lot ,obviously anime as we know it wouldnt exist without manga, so i respect it for that and the covers are great ^^ however I like colour comic books so I have more UK and French graphic novel type stuff. anywy that is getting off topic..

if I buy manga though, I do want it in Japanese, because I am seriously learning Japanese and it would really be a cop out for me to buy translated. With manga because its written down you can take all the time you need to translate the dialog, this really isnt possible with anime, so I dont get Japanese only anime (yet!).

if you have learned Japanese traditionally with text books, manga is quite hard at first because it uses a lot of its own conventions and the way of speaking is very diferent from what you learn in a typical text book. Thats why i cant always understand Yakamashi-chan becuase she talks in manga ^_~

I really dont read Japanese, as many others, so I dont think Japanese is an option. Some of the jokes are changed when translated into english version, and I dont think i'd really get the original version.
And unless the manga told me "-kun" is an honorific, I'd be completly clueless.

    Enlish for me.

I myself is only a beginner in Japanese, but if I actually spent some time learning, I would probably know how to read it (heck, both of my parents speak fluent Japanese!)

Hee, I kinda feel like a disgrace, since I own no mangas whatsoever.

As many others have said it would be a waste of money to buy a manga that is not translated into English because we have no/super little knowlege of Japanese. If I knew Japanese it would be a differnt story but more likely than not I would just keep with the transtated versions.

Really hard for me to say. My Japanese has never been very good, and it's gotten especially rusty since I stopped taking classes. However, I know I can improve my grasp of the language (at least in part) by reading untranslated manga. On the other hand, I like to know what's going on, and the best way for me to do that right now is to read the series in English.

The result? There are quite a few series that I'm collecting in a 'dual language' format. Essentially, that means I'm buying them in Japanese and in English. Sure, it's a fair chunk of change, but at least I'm spending the money on something I enjoy and will continue to enjoy.

In general, I am more likely to buy untranslated manga if the series is not available officially in English (examples: Black Cat, Nurse Angel Ririka SOS) or if I absolutely detest the English translation of the series (example: One Piece). If the official translation is decent and I don't have volumes of the series in Japanese already, I'll just wait for the American releases (examples: Bleach, Red River, Tsubasa). If I already have Japanese volumes, I'll either continue to get the American releases as they come out (Fruits Basket) or I won't be as inclined to purchase the volumes as they are released (Imadoki!).

Of course, right now it's more or less a moot point since I don't have a job and I therefore have no money to spend on manga or other frivolous purchases.

Whichever I can read. I don't know Japanese so English for me.

And as for it's not coming out quickly enough for me to get it...that'll never happen...considering it takes me forever to get enough money to buy them. >< trust me, by the time I get enough money, they'll be released.

I would probably wait for the English manga or find scanlations. My Japanese isn't very good yet, and buying manga online is expensive (at the least the manga I want), so it's better just to get the English. At any rate, my mom doesn't like me buying online, so I very rarely do get to buy online.
