I guess the ending is the best that we can expect, eh? I'm happy Colonel Mustang didn't die, even though it looked like it, right?
Al performed a wonderful transmutation to bring Ed back then Ed brought Al back. Since there are two worlds, divided by the Gate.. at least I am happy Hohenheim isn't alone in London. And I am sad.. yet this bond of love that Al and Ed both share so strongly will bring them back together some day. And I hope it happens in the movie! I hope the movie is a continuation of the story!!!

and I wonder where Wrath went?

So as a whole, what do you think of FMA, the anime? I thought it very well done and it's about time I watch it all the way through without long anticipated waits. (have to find the time).

A very well done anime! Interesting til the end. This is the first anime that has a good ending! I'm so happy Al is back! And Roy is ALIVE! T.T *sniff* I hope the two brother will reunite one day! :)

    I'd give this anime
    Animation 10/10
    Music 10/10
    Fun Factor 10/10
    Overall 10/10

I'm happy that they're both still alive! At first I thought that Ed gave up his life so Al could live, but he just ended up going to the other world. But, wasn't there already an Ed in the other world? Did Ed take over that Ed's body?

I can't wait to see the movie!

The human who was Ed's body double died when the Zeppelin fell. That really was Ed's body since he had the body mail.. but didn't it look like he couldn't use his arm? but he walked.. hmm.. oh I wanted to ask.. since Al is back, with no memories of the past 4 years, wouldn't that lead us to think the Al who Ed fastened into the armor wasn't really Al at all? I mean, Al lost his memories, meaning himself. So in a way I'm sad. But.. since it says the trade was 4 years of hardship.. then Al lost his memories due to that.. but Ed never did.

I think it's cool too how Ed has immersed himself into the technology of the Other World (ours WWII ish, right?) Maybe in the movie he'll build a rocket and blast to his world... lol.

hmm, ill have to say the ending was too rushed, i didnt really like it.
and what really bugs me is how hohemheim says "in this world alchemy wasnt developed so they have superior technology.." , i mean, argh, what is superior:

    a) the most advanced computer in the world/most advanced combat jet.

    b) artificial limbs that respond to your body perfectly...

    duh

    so much for "superior technology"

    besides:

okay....but what i dont get is why theres an image of an atomic bomb in a previous episode "thousands of lifes are lost in this world".

the first atomic detonation was in 1944 i think >_<

another thing...why did al get lost in the portal while bringing back ed? he had the philosopher stone, he was able to do anything without giving something in return >_>

oh well, its an ok anime i guess, good enough for me to watch the whole thing(i dont usually see long animes)

lets just see what happens in the movie ^^

totally! I mean remeber the cyborg forget his name alchemist dude! I mean, he should have died..

I guessed it's a messed up version of our own past..yep Atomic bombs WWII Nagasaki and Hiroshima. London.. Munich 1921? WWI, no? I never took an interest in Modern History me bad.. so I'd still say it's this weird version of our own.

Ed was referred to as a genius, Al wasn't as talented, maybe? So I'm quite suprised Al even was able to perform that to save Ed, even as the Philosopher's Stone. Maybe he's not as creative either (aren't I lambasting Alphonse here...)

TOTALLY! I can't wait.. summer 2005, come! after honeymoon, I'll have time.. lol.

I don't know, I am a bit dissapointed at how the series ended :/
I like Ed more than Al, yet, it's not fair for them both to be separated.. *sigh*

It's just, it moved me because I am the oldest and I have a very strong relationship with my sister, so when I was watching how both of Ed and Al sacrificing themselves, I was imagining me and my sister (I do that sometimes).

Speaking of high technology, maybe after few year Ed might be able to go the other world by some world-transporting machine or something, but I'd assume like in his 30s, or at least his late 20s.

I forgot that there was a movie until Ciel mentioned it; the movie might finish the series. I hate to have high hopes, but I can't actually wait!

The series screamed sequel, so yes, the movie will likely either a) finish it or much more likely b) make another sequel-screaming ending.

Mr. Cyborg was Frank Archer, and he did die. Hawkeye shot him good.

As for Wrath, we don't know much about him, but my bet is that he's going on the same journey that Ed was planning on in the very first episode. To revive Sloth for a mother.

When the Zeppelin crushed Ed, it was Ed's body in the 'real' world that died. Ed's current body is the one that was used to transmute Ed's 'alchemy' world body into one without automail. I believe that the body was still salvageable.

It doesn't necessarily have to be an A-bomb. There arae destructive bombs before that. Then again, Ed may have had a glimpse of the future, but instead got dumped into the past.

I meant when he was in the prison cell and it looked like half of his head was missing.

Yes, but the fact that he's in the cell means that he's been stabilized. If I remember correctly, he was wrapped just about the whole of his body, which suggests heavy surgery. He was also on the backlines when the whole red light occured.

It is possible that he didn't take fatal wounds, but the Fuhrer forcibly took out the parts that he didn't need in order to replace it with more durable automail.

I also thought the ending was rushed, But Fullmetal Alchemist is my favorite anime, I love Edward Elric and Alphonse ^_^. I also had a soft spot for Lust and Scar.

I really wanted to cry at the end, but someone was with me so I diddnt, I hate the feeling of holding back tears but if I start crying I wont stop.

I was go happy to see that Ed was still alive and that Roy was also still alive, but then when Ed and Al were seperated and then Al loosing the 4 years of memories, that truly made me feel really sad. Forgetting someone like that, and the things you went through, just seems so sad to me.

I for one cant wait for the movie to come out, also, I dont want the series to end, but we all know it has to some time, but a second movie or even some Ova's would be nice. Plus anyone know where I can get my hands on the Fullmetal Alchemist manga in english, but in book form, not scans, I hate reading scans.

    xx

I finished the series not too long ago so I thought I'd throw my two cents in here...

First off, I thought it was a pretty good ending. Not great, but I think it was very fitting. It answered and posed alot questions... and atleast it gave more of an ending than Wolf's Rain of Pilot Candidate (or so Sean rants....). But, yeah. And, overall, the show blows me away. No matter how often I see an episode, it's still amazing and as thought provoking and touching as the first time. So, yeah. Great series. ^.^

    Some End-Series Notes:
    - I was very happy to see that the taisa turned out to be alright. Still, "pirate Roy" poses some questions. When he walked out of the Fuhrer's mansion carrying Salem, his eye was fine, no problems. We know Archer didn't fire off any shots because Hawkeye got him right off. So, we're left to pose the question.... did Hawkeye shoot him? I've seen some pretty convincing arguements for yes and no. Being a deaf and visualy handicapped kid, I watch that episode over and over and still can't count the bullets or gunshots fast enough so I can't say anything personally.
    - ROYAI! The RoyxHawkeye love at the end was great. That just made my day. Warm fuzzies for all!
    - OMGWTF!? Where did the mecca!Archer come from? Auto-mail is one thing but a full blown half-cyborg..... easily the most random thing to happen in this show. And we're talking about a show that uses alchemy.
    - Are we supposed to assume that Dante and Gluttony are dead? Are we supposed to assume that they are alive....? No blood so he didn't eat her... looks almost like skid marks where she was standing.... Questions abound.
    - Random observation but one of the Amestris Parliment membres looked sorta like Hitler... O.O And the old general from East Headquarters looks like the creepy guy from... well, there are a lot of creepy guys who look like that. They're generally shrinks on cartoons.... yeah, random observation, remember?
    - I like how it touched base with pretty much everyone, even some of the more minor characters (look! it's Brosche and Ross! And Rick and Leo with the random shunned Ishvari alchemist! ^.^) and kinda went through a little explaination of things. That was nifty. ROYAI! ::dies::
    - My little sister has a theory. She's ten years old but it's a pretty good theory. When Al regains his body, he has no memory of the time after the failed human transmutation. So, Bailey, in her infinate wisdom gained by he past ten years, came up with this: what if it really wasn't Al in the armor. I've never seen (nor has she) the 5th Laboratory episodes but I know in the manga Al and Barry have a conversation about whether Al was real or if his brother just fabricated him. So, Bailey brought up the idea of.... what if he really did fabricate Al in away by using his soul but not his body. Then, when the soul was transferred from the armor to the body again.... This brings up a whole thing about whether the soul is connected to the mind which would bind the memories to the armor and body, not the soul and allow for this theory to work.... Yeah.
    - Where did Ed's arm and leg really go? So.... his little temporary auto-mail was left in the gate and then exchanged for he arm and leg again? So, theoretically, if Ed goes back through the gate he'd get them back? Possibly?
    - Also, Hoenheim says that the only place you can go if your soul has been seperated from body is to our world. Okay, that's all well and good. But if Ed's double was already killed, that means that his body and soul have not been seperated and we're looking at the real Ed who crossed over. So, being that the way back to our world is by the "inner gate".... there really is no way for him to go back because there is nothing for him to go back to (body wise, I mean).

And, so, I guess that's all the logical though I can put together at 1:19 AM. ^.^

    Cheers! :anime:

I don't understand either. The series leads you to believe some one is dead. Then in the end you find out their not. If that is the case... Where is SCAR?

Yes Ed was. Remember back to when the brothers both went to become alchemists, we would remember that Al scored really well at first, but Ed felt guilty and responsible for what happened to Al and told Al that He would take on the responsibility of becoming a dog to the military. I was personally led to believe that Al would have become the state alchemist, but the powers that be and the love of his brother stopped him from trying so hard.

I'm with you there!!! ^^) I hope that the Movie clears stuff up. It should be exciting though. FMA is one of a few series that had me attached to it like crazy. Gundum Wing, Gungrave, Neo Genisis Evangelion, and Escaflowne all had that same effect on me... "I couldn't wait to watch and Darn... it's over all ready!" BTW.... Are you getting married Ciel? If so.... Congrats ^^)!!!

Samside: You make some really good observations. I really enjoyed your post.

Luvweaver: Thanks for posting that link. It answers one thing, but I am left still wondering if they are really gone...

Izumi Curtis passes away between the series' end and Conqueror of Shamballa, only making a cameo as a spirit to receive Wrath when he sacrifices himself to reopen the Gate.

After all, they could come back in the movie as some super cyborg type characters too *giggle* ok, probably not, but I would like to see Wrath's story finished more...It seems strange that they went to so much work to develope the character (unlike the majority of the Homunculus) and they end it like they did. The same thing with Scar.

It seemed that there was enough character developement that they could have done a few more episodes ( ok 51 is quite a few... but I want to see MORE *LOL) and still had enough for the movie. The movie will only be maybe an hour and a half... Come on... I know that I want more than that... (Yes, I have troubles with the series being over already) but I am glad that they are doing the movie

If you recall, Hohenheim tells Ed that many peoples' lives would be taken AGAIN. (At that point the image of an atomic bomb is shown), i.e. he talks about the future. Possibly Ed saw the nuclear explosion during his first contact with the Gate.

WoOt! The last episode just finished on Adult Swim (yes, JUST NOW), and I finally get to look at the spoiler threads!

As far as the ending goes, I don't think it could have been better if they wanted to extend the series into the movie.

Though I obviously still can't ask what happened to Envy, Dante, Gluttony or Wrath, or things like that, since there's plenty of people that have seen the movie already, I am way more than satisfied with the ending it had.

I really thought Mustang was gonna become the Fuhrer, but I guess that the fact that it's an equally divided State now makes it safer.

I'm hoping the movie's good, but that's a long time from now for me, I watched almost all 51 Episodes in English, and it did allright, so I'm watching the movie on theaters when it's released.

*Sets timer to October 3rd, 2006*

So i am also waiting for the movie... i loved the ending it left it very open for furthering the series... cant wait, movie will be great!
