Escaflowne is an incredibly cool series... I was hooked after the dragon fight in the first ep, (which, incidentally, was not on american tv at all, along with the rest of the first episode) but then it got cooler, with steam powered magic mecha, floating citadels... ahh... just talking about it makes me want to watch it all again.

Beginning synopsis:
Hitomi, your average teen-age runner, well, maybe not so average, she's pretty darn fast. Anyhow, Hitomi is seeing visions, she does tarot card readings for friends, and she gets swept away to the hidden planet Gaea, where Earth and the moon hang in the sky. Soon after, she is caught in the middle of the political struggles of that planet, as the country she landed in is razed by mysterious forces, so she can't get home... Van is the new king of Fanelia, the small kingdom that was destroyed in the second episode, how will he cope with the annoying girl who saves his life, time and again? What of the Mysterious white Mecha, Escaflowne, that Van has Blood bound himself to? Join Hitomi's journey home as it is sidetracked time and again by spectacular happenings as the mysteries of Gaea are revealed.

Well, that may not be all of it, but it's got political intrigue, magic, mecha, cool swordfights, wonderful characters, happinesses found and bitter betrayals. that's not even all of it, I really like this series. (it's all on dvd now too)

I haven't seen Escaflowne yet(subbed or dubbed) but I hear that the cut english version is a piece of $hit!!

Okay the first episode was cut out and in the second episode they had some crappy prologue about what happened. Also from what I hear a scene in the show where there is a battle where blood is pouring from the sky was cut out(A scene that was necessary for the plot). And also when something serious is happening they have stupid bubbles with images coming out of hell or something to entertain kids. Well is this true? Did the editors of anime strike again?

 

I saw this one where beams were comin down from the sky or somtin and beaming people to the majestic moon or valley or sotmin .
And some auld lad Isaac wanted to get another lads journal , saw 1 big white mobile suit , looked ok , not match for the gundams though

 

I taped the first episode they aired on Fox Kids (such was my anticipation) and it was ep 2...
The white Mecha (Guymelef in the series) is Escaflowne. Anyhow... the story's awesome, the artwork is beautiful, and if you ignore the noses, so are the characters! (I still love it)

I've started to watch it on Fox kids too actually, but at the moment I really don't know what to make of it. It seems excellent in some parts, but can be fairly slow - altho that could be just because Fox has butchered it.

Would love to download a few epsiodes (subbed) to decide if its worth buying the dvds.

So, if anyone has any pages or ftps with a few episodes on it, it would be apricated.

I see no pic... anyway, if it fits the dimensions of 125x300 (i'm pretty sure that's it) then it wouldn't be too big.

I prefer the anime. I've never read the Escaflowne manga mainly because it doesn't feel like it's any way the same as the anime to me. The character designs are too different
