Ok i live in ireland so the ony escaflowne i have seen is the fox kids one, and i read somewhere (on tenchi board i think) that the escaflowne showed by fox kids is very badly edited as in murdered edited so i just want to know how much of it is riped to shreds and is the original leagues better or just more understandable.

I liked escaflowne but it seemed to get boring towards end it felt as if action was cut off

Escaflowne done bY fox is so badly done they took intire epasodes, put eps together, Taking out most of the good action parts. The Dubing is Horible, The only good dubing is character that are in it for 5 min. the main characters dubing suck..

So if you can get the Sub version and watch it..

    ya, Fox trashed it.
I'd advise to get the subs somewhere, its well worth it. Fox's editing made the anime look stupid and incoherent. Its a beautifully done anime and a favourite of all my anime friends.

I watched a few minutes of Escaflowne on fox. It was confusing!! but then again it was probably clips from different parts of the show thrown together!!

Like they probly showed a clip from the end episode, then a clip from episode 2, then 5, then the first episode....

    That Guy!'s head go boom!!!

Yeah i guessed they trashed it, but i wanna know wha they did to it. Because from someone who hasnt seen the original i dont know wha it was like originally. So if we have any escaflowne experts who could just mention a example like in ep x something was completely different to original.

    thx

if I recall, the first episode was too bloody for young viewers, so they cut that whole entire episode out, and used clips of it as bubble flashbacks. stupid eh?

I started out watching Escaflowne on Fox. That's when I first saw the series. When it got cancelled only 7 or so episodes in, I was enraged, as I had loved it, so I went and downloaded it all. ^^ I was a 56k back then, too. I successfully got 1 episode, lol... in 6 weeks. Then my friend gave me the whole dubbed series on CD. Oh, a happy young un I was indeed.

I remember reading and the Verbal content was much more...well...not as juvinial. I'm not sure it's true.

Why did they stop airing that....any way?

As near as I can tell, Fox stopped airing Escaflowne because they'd chopped it up so badly the story was no longer very coherent, and their intended audience didn't show enough interest.

I didn't watch enough of the series on Fox to see what they'd done to it (their "first episode" was more than enough to turn me off), but the site that BMS linked to is a good archive (near as I can tell) of the changes made.

Fox also got a huge amount of hate mail from what ive read and heard.. and frankly i dont suggest to anyone to EVER watch it in dub.. Get the Sub uncut.. its worth it.

I actually saw the Fox version first before I saw the real one. But when they cancelled it I went to a movie store and rented it and saw the difference. I was shocked by how much Fox had changed it from the real version and how they had butchered that breathtaking soundtrack.

I wonder if they are going do the same thing to Shaman King. But, eh, I don't watch that so its fine.

I do have to thank Fox, though. If it weren't for them, I would have never started looking for dubs or subs. Escaflowne was the sole reason I stepped into the world of true anime. ^_^
It was not lack of intrest at all that made them stop. It wasn't really storyline either. I remember watching the show and saying, "Wait a minute... that dosen't make sense!" No one really knew what was happening. But it was stupid pre-teen kids like me who watched it because it was pretty, Vahn was hot, and because we were determined to be the first to figure out what the hell was going on. And this IS Fox we're talking about. They don't care is it's stupid or dosen't make sense, as long as they're profiting from it. (*sigh* capitalists... though they're better than WB. WB would've kept airing it. *cough* Pokemon *cough*) Anyways, they cut basically EVERYTHING they deemed inappropriate. This even includes any scene in which Vahn's shirt came off. Ya see, when Fox first decided they wanted to air Esca, there was a huge uproar, (you'll recall, this was back when Fox was still targeted solely towards children, not teens as it is now), and they decided that they would have absolutley nothing bad on the series, so they wouldn't be critisized by those Mommy Organizations and stuff.
The major factor in the un-airing of the series was the affair Allen had, and teh whole situation with Cid. When they proposed to cut all of that out, too, the series would be too short to fill the season, and the majority of Fox decided it wasn't worth it, and to drop the project. I'm glad they did- they know when to stop.
Though, that wasn't the only reason. ^^

i first saw Escaflowne and thought that it might be a good series...but because it was so bad i lost interest really fast...when i actually was able to watch the subbed version i ended up loving it and loving the movie even more so...i guess when it comes to FOX they should just quit...funny thing is they also snatched up the rights to Slayers before they realized that its not a kids show...so...instead of it being edited a bit on the Adult Swim its just sitting in a filing cabinet somewhere...

I don't think it was Adult Swim. Adult Swim would probably show that show completely uncut.

Fox edited the hell outta that show.

I saw one episode and thought it sucked.

Then I saw the ** UNEDITED ** version.

    Ehhhehehehehehee...

    Fox edited out:
    all nudity :glazed:
    major bloodshed :bleed:
    major violence :bleed:
    Dilaundau's yaoi/shounen-ai moments :anime:
    sex :blush2:

    BASICALLY EVERYTHING GOOD. :catgirl:
Behold, that's why I own the Escaflowne DVD's...

I was actually glad they cancelled the Fox version. It was horrible. The voiceacting can't be described as anything but wince-inducingly terrible, and indeed, it was edited beyond belief. If that's all you've seen, you're probably going to be surprised by the uncut version (I recommend you get the subtitled version - and if you get DVDs, you'll most likely get dub AND sub. You should compare them, you'll really see a difference.)

Here's where I bought my Esca DVDs from:
    http://www.discountanimedvd.com/

They have both the full series bundle and the series/movie bundle for good prices.

I agree that fox is stupid for cutting up such a good anime:( but at least they showed it for some time so that people got a brief glimpse at it. Fox introduced Escaflowne for me. Luckily, in Canada, we got to see the whole series a couple of times and i got hooked. even though it was edited i still loved it. now i've spent hundreds and bought the escaflowne series collector's set, and the limited edition movie boxset, AND a DvD player so i could actually watch 'em.

    yay, escaflowne!

you know you're addicted when you're broke:(
