I have seen a little of this on fox kids, but I think they cancelled it because it require a lot of brain power then most stupid anime they air on these stupid networks. Well I don't understand the story, and my (anime liking) friends told me that this is one of the best animes they saw. Well I can't say anything because as I said before, I have no clue what the story is about. Then a couple of months ago MTV started to air commercials of the Escaflowne Movie DVD (not to mention the previews they have on SMJ to X DVDs, and the Animenation banners for the Escaflowne Ultimate Edition DVD)

What I want to know is:

    -What is the story about?
-Is it as good as my friends said?
-What the difference from the movie and the TV show? It seems to be showing the same thing

(I'm too lazy and broke to watch it myself)

Umm...no. Fox Kids cancelled it to appease the many fans who were retaliating to the butchering of their beloved anime.

Fox Cut out entire episodes, large plot points, and went with a horrible dubbing...in short, they did a terrible job.

The story is about an ordinary girl who winds up travelling to a world which orbits the Earth. One of its nations suddenly breaks many alliances it has in the worst possible way - attacking and destroying those who were once on its side. And all in search of an ancient power...

I have yet to see it all myself, so I can't fully vouch for it. It's about average from what I have seen though...combined mecha with fantasy....

I liked the movie even better. It's not a continuation, just a retelling of some of the stuff. Plus, I have the movie and not the series. :D

It's a big deal over here, because they're launching the movie in the theaters.

I completly agree. They should be burnt at the stake or boiled in oil for there actions. Anyway back to the topic at hand. You should definatly get them both. I loved them both. Which is odd since most fans tend like one and hate the other. But I think they are both great.

Ahhh, Escaflowne. One of my favorite series, even if it has been ousted from it's position as top favorite (if it ever even was in that position in the first place....).

As has been said, the story is about an ordinary girl named Hitomi Kanzaki. Through supernatural means she is transported to the world of Gaea where both the Earth and the moon are visible in the sky. The story focuses a lot on relationships between the characters, and one of the major themes is destiny/fate.

Whether it is as good as your friends have said depends entirely on what types of series you like. I think the animation is beautiful and the music is absolutely stunning. The story, while trite in some places, is engaging, and the characters are more than just two-dimentional cut-outs for the most part. However, even with all these things going for it, it is still very possible that you won't like the series. *shrugs*

The movie is an alternate reality to the series. Many of the characters carry over between the series and the movie, but they are not the same people. Personalities change somewhat, and character designs change, sometimes drastically. Some characters from the series are cut out entirely, and there are some movie-only characters as well.

I personally love both the movie and the series, but there seem to be a lot of people out there who don't like the movie because it's different from the series. I just say you need to watch them both with an open mind.
