I can never remember the name of the guy who composes (all?) of the Final Fantasy game music...but he's a genius! His music is evocative, groovy...just plain brilliant! I think an orchestra somewhere preformed selected F.F music some time ago.

    Nobuo Uematsu.

And I agree, he's like the John Williams of games.

:D Ah, yes I recog. the name....I feel he could actually be the Ennio Morricone of game-music.

When people ask what my fav type of music is, I often recall the melodies from Final Fantasy games. But what exactly is the type? Is it contemporary, modern classical. The recent FFX has a sorta okinawan folk feel to it. Anyone know the answer to this?

Uematsu doesn't do all of the music, though. Final Fantasy X's was composed and arranged by Nobuo Uematsu, Junya Nakano and Masashi Hamauzu. And then there's the lyricists and vocalists, too, if you want to get into that.
Anyway, I read that right off the front of the Final Fantasy X OST.
Uematsu is one of the best, although lately I'm partial to Mitsuda.

He's just the business...his music is quite varied and takes in a lot of influences.
