That's right- F.T.N. What does that mean? Read to the end and see if you can figure it out by yourself.

You might start hearing me say that alot. I hate the US Navy. I really hate the US Navy. I think it is, quite possibly, the worst organization I have ever involved myself with. The caliber of people that I have to deal with on a daily basis is staggering.

Imagine, if you will, a world where you cannot quit your job no matter how much you hate it. Imagine further a job that does not allow you to call in sick, ever. Imagine a job that will stop your pay if you are "missing", or unable to be reached for more than several hours. Imagine a job that offers no overtime, and expects you to work long hours. Imagine a job that will pluck you from your home and take you away, making you work 24/day seven days/week for six months at a time with no pay bonus or stipend. Imagine a job where your bosses can dictate what you can and cant wear, when and where you can go, and how you WILL spend your free time. Imagine a job that treats grown men and women like five year olds, and are continually inventing new slogans and sayings to help program how you should think, feel and act.

This is the Navy, where your individuality is stripped from your bones and you are forced to be another cog in the great wheel of S---.

This is the kind of organization that frowns upon bosses and leaders who bend over backwards to help those below them. This is the kind of organization that believes that if one does wrong the masses should be faulted and punished. This is the kind of organization where people who don't know jack from S--- are placed in charge of many, many people. Ass kissing is not only allowed but encouraged. Fellatiating your seniors isn't just a rare promotional scheme, it's a common survival tactic, and those who do not crawl under the table are blessed with boots in the ass and extra hours at the end of the day.

Hypocrisy is the Navy way. Do as I tell you, not as I do- that is the sign of a born leader. Stupidity is the norm and pissing off those who work long hours is encouraged on a regular basis. The individual does not know what is best for him or her. Rather than learning, like most human beings do, he or she is forced to comply with a universal set of standards that makes everyone miserable: except those under the table, they're always happy.

As a reactor mechanic my clothes are continually subject to exposure to dirt, grime, oil, sand, silt, grease, graphite, molykote, poop and radioactive substances. That said there is no real reason why I cannot maintain the immaculate cleanliness standards imposed by those in charge: Desk jockeys! Why can't I keep my clothes as clean as theirs? I guess I'm not trying hard enough. I have motivational issues.

Life is not a matter of how hard you work, who you stay and help, or how well you do your job. Life in the Navy is all about cleaning and making sure that you, yourself looks good.

Oh, by the way: Micromanagement is the Key to success in the Navy. I am not allowed to think for myself, but will be held accountable when I don't catch and correct the mistakes made by my superiors. I will be sternly reproached if, on the other hand, I do. Catch 22

Don't believe the lies, don't believe the commercials. You all could do better in life than join the military. Everyone is capable of success, you just have to try hard to achieve it.

    So what does F.T.N. mean?

    F---

    Navy

Learn from me. Never, ever volunteer yourself for something that you can't "un-volunteer" yourself for.
