    Do you believe in fate?
The fact that you are not in control of your own destiny and that you are forced to walk just one pre-determined path until you reach the end. That every choice that you make is already written and that you just act it out.

    or

Do you beleve that you are in charge of your own life and that you are free to make your own mistakes and choose the path that you wish to walk. That you have your own free will to choose what you want and that will lead to different paths depending on the decions you make.

It's a mix. We have "destinations" on our "map" of like, but we can take any "road" we want to reach that destination.

By destination do you mean death. Because I beleive in free will and that the only true fate is the last one. The idea of fate is just to....well I can't really explain it but I just find the idea unreal. So go free will.

Given that this isn't even a debate so much as an opinion-fest, I believe that there are more destinations then death. Perhaps someone is meant to protect the health of people. He could be a doctor, or a firefighter (since they can prevent death and all), a counseler, and so forth.

Ima have to go with free will here. For the simple fact that i dont believe that my life is being controlled.

But then again...i think that in the end fate comes in on the way you die...or something like that....sorry it doesnt make sense :sweat2:

I think that it does make sence. Wether we beleve that we have free will or not we all have to realise that no matter were our paths lead us they all end in the same place. And that is of course death. For those that believe in free will then its up to you which path you take and hope that its the longest route to death.

I think all of us have the potential to do something great, something that we might say we were meant to do. But the closest I'll get to believing in Fate is to say that there are consequences - infinite choices which have their attached results, and if there were some way of plotting out every possible action and reaction onwards to inifinity, we might be able to predict our own futures in a way.

But we can't. There are things that may happen to us that we can't prevent or avoid, but in the end, I think free will is by far the more likely - and preferable! - of the two.

Fate is, sadly, all too often just something that people use to justify their own bad choices. XD

Fate, is as i see it a mis-interpreted word. My opinion is, you are free to do whatever you are capable of doing. What you are capable of doing is highly restricted by your circumstances in life.

e.g - if you are born/have an accident and lose the ability to use your legs; you will never become the biggest start in the NBA.

Is this fate? No. But it can be construde as the same sort of thing - something (perhaps pre-determined (- gentics?), perhaps not) that you yourself have no control over but narrows the choices of "paths" you can take in life.

Anyway, of course as Neph said - thats just an opinion, but having just read the forum rules - im finding it quite difficult to input some "fact" into debating a largely believed theory...

I think that we all have a little of both in our lives. Some things happen, and the first thing you hear out of people is that is was their fate.
The same argument can be said for our choice of free-will. We all have the ability to make our own decisions and choices in life, but are we really sure that the choices we have made weren't already predestined by a higher power. Is it our fate to win the lottery, or an aftereffect because we choice to by a ticket. Is it fate when we fall in love and marry--or is it our free-will that made us approach the person we now spend outr lives with.

I think any way we look at it, there is a little of both inside everyone.

i believe in free will and in fate. i think that free will of an individual is much stronger than any fate. though i do think that fate is too harsh to some ppl.
