Anime Favorite Underrated Character?

    What are your most favorite characters that are underrated and/or underappreciated?

    [EDIT]Okay, I have to make a statement here and now.... am I the ONLY one noticing that at least two members here have posted characters here that aren't Unappreciated or Underrated? I mean... for the love of Pete... just because someone has a hate group that's the equivalent of their fan-group (IE Kikyo and Kagome) does NOT make them unappreciated, or underrated, in fact, it just makes them MORE popular... I mean... sheesh... I just... gah. I swear, if murder were legal... >:

    Kagero and Ryuon (Escaflowne) - With all the fandom attention given to the other Dragonslayers (even to Viore, who's just a NAME with no face, for crying out loud!), you would think that I'd have found more than one or two fansites EVER that even acknowledged the existence of these two in the series. Especially what with Ryuon being in the movie with lines and all...

    Chid zar Freid (Escaflowne) - Even the creators seem to just forget about Chid after around the middle of the series...

    Nataku (Saiyuki) - A character with a lot of depth whom very few people seem to pay any attention to, especially when it comes to possible pairings for Goku. You'd think Nataku would be paired with him more than any character besides Sanzo and/or Konzen (and maybe Homura), but I've almost never seen it. It's like people just forget Nataku exists. Now, considering he plays a pivotal role in what happens in the Gaiden arc, that seems strange to me.

    Judeau (Berserk) - Judeau falls into the background a lot, both in the series and in the fandom, despite what an interesting and vibrant character he is.

    The Silvana's mechanics (Last Exile) - So much potential, so little development. :/ And even less fandom attention. (Am I the only one who thinks there should be a comedy/yaoi doujinshi devoted to these guys harassing Moran? XD Seriously.)

    Kakeru and Himeko (Sailormoon S movie, tankoubon 11) - They have a history together, starting from their childhood together. They are quite developed for once-in-the-series characters.

    <edit> And also:

    Ritsuko (Neon Genesis Evangelion) - Because even though she's a bit wrong in the head, she's a powerful ally... if only she wasn't... wrong in the head.

    Kikyo (Inuyasha) - Personally, she's one of my favorites in the series, but I can understand why a partial number of the Kikyo-Haters detest her, but a sizeable percentage of them just need to grow up. Half the reasons suggested are inane or utterly senseless (and usually incoherant ramblings translating to: But she's stealing Inuyasha!). Now I'm an obsessive advocate of the Inu/Kag relationship, but Inuyasha's a big boy whose perfectly capable of making his own decisions regarding the women, with or without Kikyo's influence.

    Kagome (Inuyasha) - Yeah, I know what you're thinking (But she's the heroine, she certainly isn't underrated!) While she isn't as openly despised as Kikyo, I think she's a bit overlooked in the fandom, hell, webmasters had created Suikotsu shrines (whose only in approx. 10 episodes) before a Kagome shrine was even considered, and while most certainly don't hate her with an unhealthy passion as they do Kikyo, she's basically tolerated. Even the majority of her few die-hard fans customarily use this to suffice as reason for favoring her "Kag is kewl, but Kik isnt and OMG I fel sry 4 her!! Ppor Kag!1". If I somehow wound up as a series character, I'd almost rather be completely overlooked.

    Underrated characters?

    Hevn (Getbackers) - She comes off as mostly a manipulative ditz that get Ban and Ginji their missions in the anime, but she's more involved in the manga. She's also quite an accomplished fighter, and a bit of a scrapper. I just personally think she's underrated because most people who watch the Getbackers just think she's a set of boobs.

    Tsubaki Sakura (His and Her Circumstances/Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou) - She's smart (let's face it, she has to be, to get into one of the better public schools, as they said), athletic, and really not a spotlight devotee. Her and her two stooges, Aya Sawada and Sena Rika are muchly underplayed, thus far.

    Kensuke (Initial D) - Well, thinking about it, Ryousuke must see some great potential in him to make his little brother the other ace for Project.D. I mean, he DOES lose rather handily to Takumi, but I think it was more because he underestimated Takumi's 86 so much.

    Nene Romanova (Bubblegum Crisis) - Severely underrated, I think. She doesn't really get much attention, but I think she makes a lot of the show in 2040. Though her real scene was accepting Maki, and....that's about it...

    and...that's about all I can summon up, right now.

    That's all I can think of right now. I seem to like the underrated more than the overrated. :rolleyes:
