Escaflowne Favourite Character

I always liked Dilandau; he's enjoyably evil, but you can't help feeling sorry for him sometimes. I find it endlessly amusing how he always goes absolutely psycho during his fights with Van -- it just makes the whole thing so dang cool. He's stylish in his insanity.

I should also mention that I like his facial expressions, including some that I don't think are humanly possible... and some that are just WEIRD.

 

Well, I'm not very good at finding pictures for ANYthing, so I'll just say who my favorite character is. I'd have to go with that one guy that Millerna's betrothed to. I can't remember his name, but he's super-smart, super-rich, and super-generous. He knows what needs to be done when, which is rare for anyone.

Though I'll agree, Dilandau is pretty cool, too. And as for Merle, I'd say that at first, she didn't seem like a good character to me, but I like the way she matures.

 

Millerna is engaged/married to Dryden Fassa, who is a very fun character.

As far as my favorite character goes....I would have to say Folken is at the top of the list, followed by Varie and Goau. I'm big on the whole theme of redemption, I guess. Plus, wings are just cool, and Folken doesn't have nearly as much of the teenage angst that Van has.

Dryden's nice. Unfortunately, you know the saying... "Nice guys finish last." It seems to be where he's heading... so far. He's got a tough row to hoe with Millerna, that's for sure. ^_^

As for my favourites, they would have to be Merle and Hitomi. Merle is, well, Merle (there's really no other way to say it ^_^). As for Hitomi... for a girl transplanted to a strange new world, she's held up remarkably well. It's nice to see a pacifist character who's so strong in her beliefs without being obnoxious about it, not to mention that she's rather courageous for a 15-year old highschool freshman. You go girl! ^_^

Is it just me or does anyone else think Allen take his being a bishounen heartbreaker rather seriously? There've been times when I almost expected Eries to suddenly get down and declare her undying love for him. ^_^

 

I've come to love every character in some weird way.
Merle tops my list however... I've always loved her so much. She's just a nice little character, and I always felt a little sorry for her. That piccy you posted breaks my heart! ;_; Stupid Hitomi! *WAHHHH*
Vahn is another character I love. I swear, I created him! His personality was EXACTLY me... well, it used to be me, anyways. I really loved him.
I liked Allen for a while... his noble goody-good character. ^_^ But just like Hitomi, I seemed to grow out of him as the series progressed. He actually ended up at the bottom of my list, along with Hitomi. ^_^ She whines a lot, and that bothers me. Also, she's just never honest with herself, or grateful, and that REALLY annoys me! But most of all, the fact that she can't go 2 seconds without constantly making SOUND!! GRR! @.@

And ya gotta love crazy little Dilly. *.*

 

DILANDOU!!! He is so cool. I love how he always go's beserk and tries to kill Van. I also enjoy his style in fighting and he also has some great lines in the show.

My least favorite is Allen, *shudders* way to Bishie. He is also way to nice and unreal. I'd love to kill that owl of his.

 

Merle, Dilandou and Folken. Merle is adorable, funny and cool. Dilandu is so crazy you just wanna cuddle him! XD And Folken's just friggin' awesome.

Wow, lots of Merle fans. I suppose my favorite character should be blatantly obvious because of my username, eheh... But hey, I'm a sucker for characters with psychology you can get lost in. ^^ I'm also fond of the Dragonslayers, even if they are minor characters. And Dryden. He's just fun.

My favorite character was, is, and always will be Folken. Normally I don't like the tragic villain type, which was what Folken at first appeared to be. Then, after a few episodes, I realized that he wasn't a villain, just someone who was doing what he thought was best for himself and his brother. I also liked his relationship with the twins. I was so happy when he decided to join up with Van, Hitomi and the rest of them. It was not just because he was now one of the "good" guys, but because he had been able to make peace with himself and wished to right the wrongs he had done in the emperor's name. Plus, his black wings were awesome, although that didn't work out too good for him...

I also love Dryden. Like Folken, his first appearance was decieving. I thought he was going to be a selfish jerk, but he turned out to be a funny, decent, kind-hearted guy. His last scene with Millerna almost made me cry. I just don't understand what she sees in Allen. I mean, Hitomi was under a spell and Allen looked like Amano, what's Millerna's excuse? I'm kidding, but I really didn't like Allen for some reason.

 

*nodnod* I completely agree. ^_^ One of the best things about Escaflowne is that all the major characters are portrayed with a degree of realism and depth that you don't see all that often. I didn't really like Folken at first either - I was sort of neutral about him, I guess - but as the plot developed and his true nature began to come through, I really became fond of him. I'm a sucker for his type - not tragic villains, per se, but tragic characters whose decisions, though harmful, are made with the best intentions.

I suppose that's partly what I like about Dilandau... in a sense, he's the greatest victim of the series. He's the most glaring example of a character who can't seem to grasp his own fate; he's constantly being pulled one way or another by the Madoushi and his own volatile emotions. But I don't see him as being an evil characters - troubled, disturbed, and malicious, certainly, but there are reasons for the way he behaves. In his mind, I'm sure he felt he was doing what was necessary and justifiable.

Dryden's definitely a fun character. Initially, I was afraid that was going to be the scope of his personality - but then he's revealed to be not only decent, but genuinely sensitive and romantic.

*snort* XD Eh, I do like Allen - I'd just hate to be involved with the man, he's such a damned prude. I think he needs to get over his sister-complex before anything else. His lasting guilt over losing Celena, and his desire to atone, are clearly what motivates him in regards to his relationship with Hitomi and his semi-relationship with Millerna.

Granted, I don't see what Dryden sees in Millerna... XD
