did foil fencing for about a year. was told i'd be really good at epee. hehe as i'm very good at hitting wrists and umm...netherregions...you know, the areas outside of the foil target areas...

had to stop awhile ago though as i was buying a car and bills became a bit mroe important. i will start again someday though. it's too much fun poking people with sticks of metal hehe. ark was in the same group as me btw. *^-^*

Aoshi im just gonna give u a suggestion but i say you should start with epee because its more fun to be able to hit anywhere. (and i really mean ANYWHERE)

yes epee is fun i really like saber though, the reason because its more of a slashing technique involvement . but that is my opinion because i like fencing when im mad so saber helps me out in that department

the saber is an interesting weapon. technically anything called a "sword" is refering to a doubled edged weapon. whilest a "saber" is a singled edged weapon which is usually curved and made for slashing techniques. which would be refered to as a draw cut or a slice. from a technical standpoint a single eded saber is both hindered and given the advantage over a double edged sword. consider this: a sword such as an english road sword or a scottish claymore has two edges and therefore can be used to cut in either direction making it so that it can be used in such a manner as in Chinese Tai-chi where the sword can be used in circular motions where both edges come into play. but also consider this: to make such a sword, it has to be wide...usually more than 2 inches in width, to accomadate both edges.

now consider the saber: while it loses the ability to cut with both edges the hand can also be placed on the back of the sword to make cutting moves more powerful. also by losing the other edge you also lose the weight of having a wide blade. thats not to say that there arent some wide sabers such as the Kung Fu saber or the Shamshir. ive also noticed that in most sabers, a different style of tempering takes place...in the case of the Shamshir, Shcimitar, and Katana, the steel is folded, which creates a saber of unequelled strength.

anyway thats my rambling for now...

if you have any questions about swords, swordsmenship or anything related to it ask me ^_^x;;;;;; tis one of my hobbies...i study lots of swords and swordsmenship styles...
