I doubt they would. But then again it could be possible if they decided that it was about Cloud looking for Aeris. Every Cloud/Aeris fan would love that ^_^.

Can't be fully dismissed, but the character deisgner, Tetsuya Nomura recently had an interview in the Japanese magazine Dorigma, an excerpt of which follows from RPGamer's reports:

"On Final Fantasy VII, Nomura stated that the chances of a sequel were unrealistic. Since Final Fantasy X-2 was built mostly off the engine of its predecessor, it was fairly easy to quickly produce a sequel. However, the much older engine of Final Fantasy VII would be unusable, and the game would have to be built mostly from scratch. This would require the development time and resources of a brand new Final Fantasy."

Late last year, there was the rumor that an FF producer was considering such a sequel, but once again:

"[it was] indicated that they did not want to let down scores of impassioned fans with a sub-par sequel. With this in mind, the team has hesitated to make any definite plans for the game. "

    So, who knows for certain?

Even if there was going to be one, I probably wouldn't want to play it. I like things just the way they were. With poor Sephiroth as a victim and Aeris dead. It wouldn't feel right to just have them back all of a sudden. And it probably wouldn't have the same kind of emotion from the first one. Let's just leave FF7 alone.

Amen. Most sequels suck. Now if they remade the game with better graphics and stuff I guess, but once again, as Matt-su said, it would be from scratch, a quite a waste of time. Besides, the old crappy graphics add somethig to the game. ^_^

I agree. If they totally re-did FF7 with better graphics and talking scenes like in FF10, I would totally buy it. There are rumors of Square making a remade FF7 but it's not for sure, i presume.

i would buy it if they remade it, like new engines better graphics and voices, but didnt mess with the story at all, let all the parts be the same, just upgrades

Hmm... I would love to see a FF7 remake/sequel. But before Square even thinks of remaking seven, dont you think they'd remake 4-6 first? But a sequel to seven is much higher up on my list than X-2 (although I can't wait for that one) Even if there isn't any FFVII remake (which sadly there more likely than not won't be) I always have the FFVII Internet series to keep me happy!!! :)

They can't really make a sequel to FF7 because (unless everyone can live for a long time) most of them are dead (Red XIII is an exception) seeing that Midgar was covered in mega plants at the very end of the game (after the credits) and Red XIII, who is 45 years old when we first meet him, he is a lot lot older at the end and plus, he's got kids! So FF7 sequel is out of the question in my opinion.

still it would be pretty cool. who would say that they would go by the laws of age and time? they should just let them be alive. i think that would be pretty cool though.
