So how did the book end?

I'm sure I've said this before, but everything about the movie was un-freakin'-believably amazing. I mean, you have a good story, decent (but hardly notable either way) directing, and two of the best actors in Hollywood (Norton and Pitt). Also, one of the best lines in the universe:

"I haven't been ****ed that hard since gradeschool."

    [OBVIOUS SPOILERS]
If I remember correctly, Rupert/Jake/Jack/Whatever is talking about how he's in "Heaven" after the shooting himself incident. Of course it seems like he's dead at first but then he talks about Marla visiting him... it's really all kind of blurry, I haven't read that book in ages. So UFOtaku could probably put it better than I, heh.

funny, the original line was deemed too dirty to be shown on film (in america)

"wow, i wanna have your abortion"

    hmmmmmm........

being me, i have my opinion on anything, so here it goes.

the movie Fight Club shows one of the most well displayed depictions of human trauma there is. the fact that a person can be so hit with the society he lives in and then adapt so quickly, is showed by genius. as the viewer watches he is easily led to believe (if you havent seen it look away) that bad pitt IS actually real. only to be led otherwise at the end, gives a pure, unequvical sense of remorse and unfulfillment at the same time.
the acting played by norton is so well adapted at the role, a viewer is led to question whether the he was chosen for the role, or the role for he.
as we watch, we also learn, another great example of the difference it has between the other hollywood movies.

    well, ive exhausted myself.

I love this movie. Ed Norton and Brad Pitt are both so brilliant in it. The first time I watched it was with a friend at 3:00 in the morning. We watched it 2 more times before returning it. Fight Club was the first movie we had ever watched more than once after renting it (we ended up doing the same thing to Memento and 28 Days Later). A trully great film.

Since i Found out that the Movie was originally a book i've been trying to find it. However I havent looked very hard. Whats the name of the author?

Obviously I loved the movie, (that and taxi driver have given me a unique love of Insomnia sufferers)

it not really relevant but 28 days later was also cool (a decent british zombie movie YAY, of course I'm writing this before seeing Shaun of the dead) , I havent seen memento much to my dismay

Novus you've mentioned that you've studied film so I guess you'd know about these kind of things : What do you consider to be good directing.

The author of Fight Club is named Chuck Palahniuk. There's a site dedicated to him, www.chuckpalahniuk.net (fairly certain that's it, haven't been there in a while).

His list of books include the following:

    Fight Club
    Invisible Monsters
    Survivor
    Choke
    Diary
    Lullaby
Fugitives And Refugees: A Walk In Portland, Oregon

He also has a short story entitled "Guts" which can be found in a more recent issue of Playboy (as it was the only magazine that would publish it). You could probably find it on-line, as well.

With the exception of Fugitives and Refugees (which is a sort of autobiography), all of his works thus far are fiction (though Guts is partially based on Non-Fiction).

He should have another book due out in June called Stranger Than Fiction: True Stories.

Probably my favorite author, Fight Club, Invisible Monsters and Lullaby are his best works thus far (in my humble opinion).

The major diff is that in the book he actually shoots himself twice, the second time it goes through his head and kills Darla. In the movie, she lives happily ever after.

But it's interp. diff ways. Read it!

That's simply because Norton's one of the best actors in Hollywood.

Happy endings sell better. Plus, an audience has different expectations of film and novels. I mean, you can have the most mind-blowingly crazy ending in a book, and people will just accept it, but if you do something weird or unexpected at the end of a movie, someone will just say "what?" and drop you like biotech stock.

You're so right. Secret Window was good, but people didn't like the fact that there wasn't a happy ending. *sigh* Stupid general public...
