What style of fighting do you prefer in anime? Fantasy or, Japenese style...

    This is what I mean:

Japanese: a ninja, samurai, martial arts
    Fantasy: Knights, Lancers, etc...

and if you were a fighter, what weapon would you use?
    ___
hmm, does this post go under misc or anime???

(an anime question, so it's in the right place)

Hmmm...I like Japanese better (probably 'cause it's more foreign...), but sometimes I enjoy a good futuristic romp with guns or machinations...

The fights I seem to enjoy watchin gover again, are the well thought out one on ones, not the hectic mass fights where it's impossible to keep track of what's going on. Usually, it helps if one fighter has techniques that are unique, yet somewhat in the realm of believability... These fights are the ones that keep me on the edge of my seat, wondering how those moves will be countered by the other, if and when they do...

If I were a fighter, I'd prefer to have more personal combat (martial arts, or blades of some kind)...becuase those mechs must stink after people sweat in 'em for so long..!

BakaMattSu, was a Lancer at one time, but that's another story [IMG]...

I prefer Japanese style fighting myself, the move names are just cool I find. An example is 'Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu Ouki Ama-Kakeru-Ryu-no-hirameki'!

Dragonball Z's fights I find I enjoy watching over and over. Although I'm starting to thirst for new techniques to be shown.

Although, I loved the technique today when Majin Buu turned Deborah into a cookie and ate him...

As a big fan of American pen-and-paper RPG's, European literature, and other western world-type things, I've gotta go with the Fantasy style.
I like samurai as much as the next guy (hell, I've even co-written a play about one before), but I've always preferred the rogue sort of character, the pirates and swashbucklers, and the Robin Hood type of character, the "rebellious hero", if you will. Japanese stuff tends to focus on the samurai, the big shot descendants of other samurai or nobles. How many nobles do you know who help the lower class?
Of course, there's those guys from The Seven Samurai, and the Yagyu clan was pretty cool as well, but I'm more of a King Arthur/Robin Hood/Bilbo Baggins kind of guy.
As for what weapon I'd most likely use, I'd have to go with the tradition fencer's sword, the rapier. That thing's a classic, used by some of my favourite Shakespearean characters. If not a rapier, I'd go with some kind of staff, so I could be battle-ready without looking like I want to fight.
As for Lancers, well, I also used to be one, and I've gotta say that being a Flame is much more fun. (inside joke there)

I prefer fantasy style cuz the japanese style is sometimes (very) exaggerated..

....I would prefer Beserk over Ninja Scroll ... because the fighting scenes are more realistic

Hmm. Well, I like fantasy & Japanese. I like the ff style of fighting, I like the so perfectly choreographed movements of Japanese fighting, but give me hand to hand combat and swords, spears and stuff.
    Go Zidane!

I can't say I like either better, I enjoyed the fight scenes of Berserk, the martial arts romp of Ranma & Rekka, and the fantastic swordplay in Kenshin, all of them have their own appeal to me.

But... if I had to choose a weapon?
    Definately the Zanbatou
(can't find those around though, that's why I only have a katana, a wakizashi, and a ninjatou as my japanese part of my sword collection)

Personally, I tend to like more fantasy-type fighting too... especially if it combines more European-style moves with more traditional Japanese ones (think of the duels in Utena, which really do a good job of this). I also like mech warfare too, which I wouldn't necessarily classify with fantasy-style fighting.
