    Chapter 1

It had been done. The most inexplicably powerful and dangerous Sorceress of all time had been defeated. It could never have been dreamed; the one who conquered and possessed Galbadia in the matter of minutes had been defeated. Sorceress Ultemicia’s fall was fatefully inevitable but unexpected.

Six young, valiant heroes had crowned the world with the fruits of their struggles – new long lasting peace. Although alone and without any military aid, they had crossed the boundaries of time travel, dominated the mysterious arts of the most powerful magic on the face of the earth.

After the victorious battle with the dreaded Sorceress from the future, the young heroes rejoiced their new-cast peace on the world with a huge ball at Balamb
Garden. With Edea and Rinoa's sorceress values no longer threatened by the
grasp of Ultimicia, they both were now at ease and led normal lives.

The turmoil stricken world had regained blissful serenity, although not far, there seemed to be many trivial evils being born and growing silently...

Exactly one year after, in the begin of June...

    [9:54pm]-[June 6th]

Brisk, cool, breezes swept over the lonesome fields that lay just outside the
well-known Balamb Garden... The isolated grassland surrounded the Garden building, contrasting against its vivid, bright colours. Balamb Garden, a significant structure on the small Isle of Balamb, was known as one of the best SeeD training faculties in the whole world.

It was a remarkable building, vast, huge, rounded and able to hover above the ground. It accommodated children wanting to train, from the mere age of 5 and at 17 it was expected of them to graduate and become dedicated SeeDs. This is where the strifed lives of SeeD Squall Leonhart and his comrades continues…

Long shadows stretched over the field, converting the normal color of the
wet blades of grass into a darker shade. They were the elongated shadows of two people. The hollow sounding winds whispered a secretive melody of their own language, unfathomed and often misunderstood… Rinoa gazed up to Squall who stood beside her.

"Squall...why did you bring me here?"

Squall gazed down at the silent green grass and didn't answer. Closing his eyes, his
expression changed, a small urge of hate vibrating in his hand as he clenched it... He looked up again, his eyes burning with an impulsive curiosity and solid
determination. Rinoa watched him, puzzled at his behaviour.

"Squall, tell me, what's wrong? Why did you take me here...it's getting dark…" she uttered, her eyes dancing left and right uneasily, as the orange gusts of warmth sharply tangled with the bitter cold. The sun was setting. The moon glowed faintly amongst the slight glimmer of stars.

Squall gazed at her, his expression softening.

"Rinoa... Do you remember the time when you spoke of ‘that summer’?"

Rinoa's glance dropped and her reluctance made Squall step up to her so close
that, there may have been literally no space between them anymore. Her heart began to race against the seconds. A hint of pink colour invaded her cheeks and she looked up to him. Squall slipped his arms around her gently and looked her in the eyes, his usually rare smile inhabiting his lips. The very same sweet smirk he flashed at her on the ball night. His first real smile.

"You never told me what existed between you and Seifer… You always mumble in your sleep… And you sometimes call his name. All I wanted to know is-"

"Squall..." she almost whispered, her eyes clenched shut, bearing tears as she broke his sentence off.

Squall closed his eyes, sighed and realized he was gripping her tightly and
almost hurting her. He blinked and let go of her.
Rubbing her arm gently, Rinoa looked at him with a steady, cool stare, emotionless and dead.

"Rinoa I'm sorr-" Squall blinked, calling out to her back as she stalked towards the Garden.

“Rinoa, please! Listen to me!” he wailed, the winds hushing his call down and he wearily grasped his forehead and sighed in despair.

    She was gone...

    At Balamb Garden...
Irvine almost dropped his rifle as Rinoa rushed past him.

"Whoa!!" he grasped his weapon more tightly and gazed after her as she disappeared into the Dormitories. Selphie approached Irvine, holding two hot-dogs and followed his gaze.

"What's up, Irvy?" she tilted her head, wondering. Irvine shrugged,

"I don't know, not really. I think that was Rinoa who just ran past me." He looked back to Selphie and took his hot-dog, flashing a dazzling smile at her. Smiling back, Selphie bit into her hot-dog and sat herself down on the bench, listening to the hushed tones of the water fountain behind her.

Balamb Garden had always grown very quiet, serene and lifeless at night. The lights overhead turned brighter, reflecting vibrantly in the gushing water pool that was in most parts of the Garden. Inside, the Garden structure was based on a circular space, with every prominent facility around one big water fountain.

All the main facilities like Cafeteria, Dormetories, Infirmitary, Quad, Library were spaced out around the fountain. It was a usually quiet place, with the exception of noon when people would rush for the hot dogs, talk, escape from the lessons as the bell would ring and just relax.

The other big events that caused the Garden's pupils to become extremely loud and cheery would have to be Garden Festivals, still faithfully run by Selphie.

"Hmm hmm these hot-dogs sure taste great!" Selphie giggled. Irvine sat down and leaned against the bench finishing his hot-dog off. To Selphie’s irritation, he licked the tips of his fingers rather suggestively and winked at her, before tossing the greased wrapper into the metallic bin next to him. Selphie grinned, sticking her tongue out at him in retaliation.

"Hmm yeah, I just love sittin’ here instead of that hot, stuffy Cafeteria." Irvine closed his eyes, the hat tipped slightly covering his eyes and he relaxed himself a bit.

A gust of wind hurdled past Irvine and Selphie as Zell speeded into the Cafeteria. A few odd moments later he returned looking as gloomy as he always did, when the hot-dogs were sold out.

"Damn! I missed them at Lunch and now this! Jeez man! This SUCKS!"
Irvine chuckled, shaking his head. Zell sighed, winked with his hand, and went off to the Dorms. Irvine grinned at Selphie

"Poor guy..." Selphie giggled wiping her mouth with a tissue.
Gazing down, hands in pockets, and a solemn expression covering Squalls face like a mask, he walked by.

Irvine looked at Selphie, seeming somewhat worried about Rinoa and Squall.

"Umm...uh...I would really want to know what is up with those two...hmm..."
Selphie nodded and watched Squall disappear around the Training Center area, knowing he was headed towards the Dorms...

    hope you like it^^

    Chapter 2

    [10:51pm]-[June 6th]

Squall lied staring blankly up at his ceiling, in his dorm room, which was filled with utter silence and darkness. Nothing stirred in his room, the curtains hung still, the windows were shut firmly and the quietness grew thicker, despite the persistent ticking of the clock on the wall opposite him.

He was wide awake, and the images of Rinoa flashed back and forth, and a few puzzling, mysterious reminiscent incidents returned to him.

She smiled, he remembered. Her blue robe fluttered briskly around her legs as the winds blew. Her gaze turned towards the clear, gentle blue sky.

Seagulls flapped their feathery wings relentlessly against the strong currents of air. The breeze had swept over everything that stood on the balcony of the Garden building. Sunshine flooded the sky, and the winds carried the whispers of the salty seas.

The soft tunes of the northern winds howled lowly in his ears again as he relived the moments in his memory.

Squall sighed to himself, his expression hard and saddened… In the darkness, there still glimmered a small ray of light, which penetrated his curtains and majesticly shined upon the very edge razor of his Gunblade.

The Gunblade, his personal combat weapon, composed of a 6-bullet barrel gun with a shining silver a blade only few tens of centimeters short of a meter. It leaned slightly against his bed as it stood, and shone in the light…

Repeating his pensive sighs, Squall curled up, pulling the smooth quilt over his bare chest and rolling onto his left side. The coldness of the covers tingled over his skin, and he curled up more, trying to retain his body heat. An agitating flashback occurred in his mind.

    He saw her face again.

    Rinoa.

The room had been shadowed very slightly from the bright light that penetrated the shuttered window. A maroon carpet lay under their feet.

A waiting room coasted into view, with elaborate sofas, a sophisticated glass table between the seats, some cupboards and wardrobes of dark orange wood. The air in the room rose, the heat grew palpable as everyone sat, awaiting any response from Galbadia Garden’s Headmaster.

Despite the presence of Zell, Selphie, Rinoa and Squall, a deep blanket of silence had settled over the humid room. Sickening and Thick. Squall remembered his throat had grown dry with anticipation. He’d wondered often about Galbadia Garden and its rulings.

The Galbadian Garden was deemed the most powerful, with skillful training and governmental support in financial issues. Where they allowed to stay? Selphie pinched two shutter blades, pressing them down and peeked out of the window.

Suddenly the door opened; Quistis had arrived with news. They were permitted stay. Headmaster Martine had comprehended their dilemna…

“I...really liked him. He was always full of confidence, smart... Just by talking to him, I felt like I could take on the world." A faded vision of Rinoa voiced clearly.

He remembered her face. The glint of mischief in her eyes as she let the words slide over her tongue.

“I…really liked him.” Echoed his Squall’s ears, as he tossed and turned in bed. His blood rushed rapidly in his veins, as mysterious avenues of possibilities began to open up in his mind…

Selphie turned from the window, gazing at Rinoa, who sat comfortably on the sofa.

“Your boyfriend?” she wondered, and the memory of Rinoa’s lit up, joyed countenance flickered before Squall’s eyes.

"I...I think I was in love."

Squall buried his face deep into his pillow, as the intense words drove daggers into his heart. Deep pains arose from the center of his chest, stinging his eyes and throat.

His head felt heavy, as if the questions weighed a ton each, dizzying and sickening him. He had to know what had gone on. And if it wasn’t still doing so…

Her giggle played back and forth in his mind as she uttered: "If I didn't like him, I wouldn't be talking about him. It was last summer... I was 16. Lots of fond memories…lots of great experiences…"

"Seifer..." he closed his eyes, sighing heavily, the inner curiosity killing him softly. Drifting slowly into sleep, his restless dreams were interrupted by a few, nearby footsteps.
Murmuring he rolled over and fell into a deeper sleep, ignoring the minor disturbance...

    Meanwhile...

"Raziel...no...no… Please...just don't..." Rinoa's weak, reluctant attempts to stop him were useless, somehow. Rinoa persistenly removed his hands from her waist and face, trying to escape the romantic air about him.

His almost white-blondish hair, drifted slightly across his face with the wind, as his deep green eyes seemed to be piercing into her black ones.

His green eyes sparkled with brilliance in the full moon’s dreamy light. The secret area, at the back of the Training Center in Balamb Garden seemed to be deserted, with them being the only couple to visit it at the late hour.

"Don't worry..." he placed his hand on her cheek once again, and drew closer, pressing his lips gently over hers. Rinoa, as if it was instinct, slipped her arms around his neck, pressed him closer and returned his forbidden kisses.

Her impulsive desire to grow closer to him, bond with him and love him seemed to have been answered. Their kissing continued, while the star filled sky slowly darkened with masses of dark grey clouds rolling over them. A long train of howling winds drowned their muffled sounds…

A sharp intake of breath ripped the silence as Squall, immersed in anxious sweat, awoke with a jolt, panting and wheezing, his eyes wide as he sat there staring at the wall in disbelief.
Raising a hand to his forehead and sighing, he uttered Rinoa's name...

    "I hate these stupid nightmares..."
( But I have to put an end to it...once and for all...now or never...)
Jumping out of bed, slipping his clothes on and brushing his hair back slightly, he left his room.

Wandering down the dark corridor, aided by streaks of heavenly moonlight and the serenity of silence, Squall calmly ambled towards her dorm room. The taste of sleep still lingered in his mouth, whilst his eyes blinked occasionally, trying to keep awake.

Knocking firmly on her dorm room, he waited.

    No answer.

Squall banged louder on the door, in case she slept.

    There was still no answer.

(What…? Where could she be at this time of the night…)

Sighing he took a brisk walk around the Garden to find her. He examined the vast circular cavity, which was the main of the Balamb Garden structure.

High walls sloped up to meet and form a round shell. The main was dimly lit, with computer programmed seals locking all major facilities except the Training Center.

"Hmm...where could she possibly be..." he frowned, his anxiety growing with every step, every glance...every love-filled heart beat.

"RINOA!!!" he wailed, uncaring of the circumstances. His anxious call vibrated in all directions, echoing back. Only then was he aware of how alone he really was. There was no one there. He was the lone wolf…

His heart skipped a beat, his eyes huge in horror...
Hopes on finding her disappeared, as his heart sunk at the sight of her blue robe lying in front of the Training Center.

In a matter of seconds he had judged what might have happened…the circumstances were dreary.

( Paranoid. Paranoid. Paranoid. I'm just being Paranoid..maybe she...but why would she!? Why would she take it off before going into the Training Center??? She…she might’ve been attacked!)

A lump in his throat formed, he couldn't explain why her robe was lying there, his mind raced with the most ludicrous ideas and solutions.

He held his head and forced himself to stop thinking, taking a deep breath he calmed himself down.

(I hate it when I start thinking too much... I can't explain it...no point thinking about it...I have to go in and check...)
Gripping his Gunblade firmly, he walked in, picking her robe up as he went along...
