    Hiya -

I've added the first podcast to http://www.boards.jp/podcasts/.

It's a little bit long for a podcast, and if I sound laidback it's because I was recording late at night :) Actually, the speech parts may put you to sleep and the music parts will wake you up!

In either case, I hope it will encourage our members to make their own podcasts, be they Anime or J-Pop Reviews or just a special show on your own favourite manga. The only stipulation is that we have to try and avoid any copyright issues with licensed music or audio.

Anyway, enjoy hearing what Cloud sounds like and hopefully others will take over from me on this...

    John.

Well, I gave it a listen. Quite enjoyable! :)

In fact it got me in the mood to try one of my own, I'll have to write something up later and get it going. I've already got a couple ideas to try out. ^^

But copyright issues, that's a tough one, kinda limits us in a lot of ways. This means we'd have to come up with our own background music or something, eh? I think any I did would have to be all silent. :(

Anyway I'll definately give it a try sooner or later, now I know what it is. My question however would have to be how we're to handle submissions. Upload them somewhere like yousendit or rapidshare and PM you the link, or is there some other way we should follow?

I'll look forward to more of these :)

Very nice Cloud! You did a great job. You didn't sound THAT layed back to me :D. I gotta try my own sometime. My question is do they all have to be about Anime and Manga, or can they be about something else, like, oh, say, video games?

I was thinking of recording my review of F.E.A.R. that I wrote for GameSpot. You can read it here:

Video game reviews are fine - hey, pretty much anything with a tenuous link to Japan or BJP goes :)

Hey, it takes TIME to be talking into a microphone for an entire hour. I'd be dead, or I would have cracked up for no reason sooner or later.

As for the copyright issues, can we not just do the same thing we do in the RPG's, or is it different?

Just 3 questions about posting podcasts:
    1. How do you post? Do you have to subscribe to post in them?
    2. Is there any restrictions on the size of the file that you can post?
    3. If so, is there a way to reduce the file size?

When i get to a lab that actually has sound on the computer then i'll give it a listen, looking forward to it.

    Hiya -

I can create accounts on the podcasting area for whoever needs it - also, if you have a URL of the MP3, just PM me with it and I'll add it if this is handier.

    There's no file size limit - I doubt you'll be going over 30 minutes / 15 MB...

I used 22khz mono 32kpbs for the MP3... But whatever floats your boat :)

    Hope this helps,

    John.

Seishin - what do you do in the RPGs?

Well, we're supposed to give credit to the original authors of the Anime/Manga/Movie. Then again, I'm not sure exactly HOW it can work on the Podcasts, since we'd be playing the actual song, or at least a part of it.

Oh, and for those of you that when recording a sound may end up with something other than an MP3, I found this little site that I hope helps:

    http://www.blazemp.com/

It's a trial, but it WILL help.

Gave a listen for about 5 minutes, but then it started to just sound like rambling to me. ^_~

I admit I just wanted to hear what you sounded like, but it finally gave me an impression of what a podcast is like. I'm interested in maybe giving it a go, if I can think of something with substance to yammer on about.

    Clouds voice makes Teddz goes...;)

I am up to it, due to the fact that I have some radio experience in the past, so I can do some catchy voice changes.

    However, that intro sounded somewhat..crispy.

    All and all, sexual <3

Yeah, there should be like a disclaimer or something.

WARNING:Be prepared for a freaky way of saying "Boards.Jp"

I'm working on getting a good mic, and something ready right now.

Question though, what program do you use to put in songs in too?

Cloud you are so irish. :p

Anyway I liked it. Don't have a mic but I can sure write better then some bandits. I think doing an RP one would be cool. I would gladily write a script up for Inuyasha along with others.

Perhaps name the song, the singer, and where it originates from, or something? Certainly that would give credit where it's due, I think.

I was going to do that anyway. :p

I don't think even crediting is safe in that respect. In the end, it is a form of distribution, which is the clear difference from the RPG forum. Getting slapped with a cease & desist order from a recording label isn't something you want to attempt - I was reading how even Animemusicvideos.org got slapped with one by three artists recently in a report by ANN.

Wouldn't playing the whole song count as distribution?

We could just play part of it, and only use it as a background music. There's plenty of sites that give parts of music and they don't get in trouble. (Altavista is an example...)

yeah, but not all of their fans go to the band asking if the band made an amv or anything else on the site.

in the end, it's sad, but it's just easier to avoid giving out free publicity to bands you like. or, you could always go the distance and ask if you can use a song from them hehe.

In some ways, I still don't get the point of a podcast...

I think this one is cute, if a little long, but I wouldn't mind going ahead and rambling a bit on a given subject. Sounds like fun.
