Would appreciate that new information Vince - thanks!

As regards Ian's question, Listbot (which is owned by
Microsoft) slid in these ads fairly recently, I can't
see the option to turn them off - if it offends enough
people we may have to move the list to yahoogroups.com
    instead.

Uh, you want to go from bad to worse? I took one look at the marketing
quiz Yahoo wanted me to take in order to migrate my old egroups account
there and told them to take a hike. They don't need to know how much
money I make a year in order to include me in a mailing this they bought.

What you want is somebody who still runs mailing lists for the sake
of delivering email, not as a way to harvest addresses of people with
wallets. I'm not sure that exists these days unless you run the list
    yourself from your own server.

I don't mind the adverts too much - they're wasting their money to
attract the clueless. I would be a bit upset if they're doing a blue-
peter style "and here's a list we made earlier". If the list is being
hosted for free, they've got to make money for the service somehow.

I get *far* too much UCE spam as it is, so there's no way I'm going to
make myself a bigger target. It's hard enough explaining to a clueless
boss why I keep getting adverts for all the porn I can eat arriving in
    my mailbox :-(
