J-Rock Gackt

Hey, I don't know if anyone here has heard of him but my favourite singer is Kamui Gackt, so look him up he's super good, I would post a bit of info but I dun have any handy right now so go look him up, you'll find lots of stuff on him cause he's super duper awesome.

Ya, I think that Gackt sounds better now that he's on his own, don't get me wrong I loved Malice Mizer, but I love Gackt more, lol.

Anyone like Gackt?

I posted in another thread that I am a die hard Gackt fan, but I have only been listening to his songs for a few weeks. He's in a Japanese video game I read about, (still trying to learn more about that too. :sweat2: ) Can anyone suggest some good ones?

 

I heard about him briefly, but I've never heard his music.

I played the game last week, and that's how I got to learn a lil "more" about him. It's called Bujingai, and has a really nice, Chinese-swordfighting theme going on. The graphics are nice and clean, and looks cool when Gackt slashes away with his two mystical swords with bright, dazzling light trails. Plus you get to create your own intro for the game. The gameplay is kinda plain though, sort of like a simple version of Devil May Cry. Well if you're a die-hard fan you should get the game. I heard he's not as buff in real life as he is in the game.

Iam a fan of Gackt but only when he was singin with malice mizer....I can suggest some good songs that he wrote.

That is called Visual Kei...

He mustve picked that up from being with malice mizer. Basically its when you dress in colorful colors ( also dye it that way) just to hook the crowd up. It doesnt reflect on the music..i hope :sweat2:.

I actually heard another song from him...I think it was called seven.

I must say that i am not a fan of just Gackt.

When he was with Malice Mize, I loved him and the enitre band.

When he was with Malice Mizer, they were my favorite Jrock band.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I have to. I just abso-****ing-lutely have to.
Gackt is one of the worst things in music history. He claims to be able to play like 6 instruments, but from what I've heard, he plays them all poorly. And what's with the Ubercheesy violin in like half his songs? It's a mockery of one of the best classical string instruments. I could get better violin out of Turkey in the Straw. Then there's the fact that he basically wants to be David Bowie. He's just missing one thing: musical ability. While Bowie could pour out fun like Space Oddity and Ziggy Stardust and all this other original stuff and stir up legitimate controversy and even manage decent movies, Gackt is just doing stuff that's already been done, both in Japan and elsewhere.
And, finally, I'm going to talk about the fanbase. I'm sorry about this, because I know I'm going to offend several of you, if not all of you, but I have to say this anyway. Gackt fans are a bunch of drooling, obsessive morons. I have yet to meet, face to face, someone who is a casual fan of any of his work, yet I have met countless whiny fangirls who spend about as much time drooling over his womanly looks as they do listening to his music. He's like a one-man boyband. Also, all of said fangirls seem to divide what time they aren't spending drooling over this guy between looking at yaoi on the Internet, drawing yaoi to post on the Internet, or searching for yaoi on the Internet, or telling people on the Internet about the latest yaoi doujinshi they found on the Internet. And, of course, any time they don't spend doing that they spend blabbering on about how great Gackt is, or wondering why people like me can't stand him. That's just based on all my sister's stupid friends, though. I'm hoping you're all much smarter than that.

 

Yeah... i couldnt agree more... but i am standing by my descision of liking Malice Mizer.

When Gackt was with the great Yu~ki, Mana, Kozi, Kami. When he was with them and made the old Malice Mizer, they were very good.

But Gackt as a solo act isnt very good.

Please don't insult my knowledge. I've been a Visual Kei fan for god knows how long...and Gackt Job is NOT visual kei...

I know exactly what you are talking about, but there is no necessity for you to stereotype all gackt fans. As much as I agree with you that most of the fans are obsessed gyaru girls, not all fans are. I don't know david bowie that much, but you can't say that what Gackt's done has already been done here in japan. If you can, please back up your statement on that...I'm not arguing with your judgement, I just think that you should give Gackt a fair chance.

I've seen Gackt play the violin, the piano, the acoustic guitar, and also the electric guitary before LIVE. His skills may not match that of TAk matsumoto or Moriyama Ryouko, but I think he has talent.

I'm not sure if I would call myself a fan, but I respect him as an artist. I adore his voice, but not all of his music. He has a very different voice and a very different style. I know for a fact that 80% of jpop idols cant sing his songs. As much as I dislike his current popularity and look, I would have to say that he's one of the top 50 artists on my list.

As for all the yaoi that includes Gackt...give me a break. EVERY damn artist does it. Its called FAN SERVICE.

 

1. No stereotype is EVER meant to cover ALL of a given group. By definition, I am giving an average description based on personal experience and observation.

2. Bowie is a worldwide superstar. If you're not familiar with him, you probably live under a rock in a desert somewhere, possibly in Antarctica. As a worldwide superstar who has been in who knows how many movies and has release songs and albums beyond count, the idea that no one in the entertainment industry in Japan has heard of him is absolutely ludacrous. In fact, one of his movies, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, was, if I am not mistaken, filmed in Japan. Also, the man's done shows worldwide, and saying he hasn't impacted all music as a whole is about as intelligent an idea as saying that Mozart, Beethoven and Bach also had no impact, and that John Lennon was not a member of the Beatles. Furthermore, "Glam Rock" was a big trend in the 70's and 80's, and it is quite obvious that Japan has a history of mimicking trends in other cultures (hence the popularity of European-styled techno for example).

3. I've also seen him play said instruments live, mostly while I'm playing video games and my sister's watching bootlegged recordings she's downloaded. I KNOW better violinists. Hell, I know violinists who make better pianists. Maybe that's just because my school is one of the top-ranked music schools in the country, but still, this guy's a pro. He should at least have the abilities of one. Let's see ... better guitarists ... Cobain, Grohl, Santana, Hendrix, May, Clapton ... the list goes on. Of coruse, I've never been one to expect someone to put down decent vocals AND instrumental play at the same time, so I'm willing to cut the guy some slack in this regard.

4. I NEVER made references to yaoi INCLUDING Gackt. I merely pointed out the fact that every fan I have ever met, face-to-face, has been a total yaoi freak. Once again, said fans are more or less limited to my sister and her insanely stupid friends, but that's the demographic on which I have based my observations.

5. I DID give Gackt a chance. Once, on a drive home from London, I allowed my sister to play a CD she had in the car stereo. This was before I had ever heard of Gackt, other than maybe a name here or there. I was very much unimpressed by the music, to the point where I was almost disgusted by the fact that I was listening to it when there was a Rod Stewart CD on the floor (and for the record, I hate Rod Stewart more as a person, but he's not musically as bad). The first song, I was like, okay, this song's pretty bad, but she [my sister] says this is one of the worst songs on the CD. Then the rest were either generic pop-rock or whiny, overplayed violin songs.

 

I dont see anything wrong with gackts music. To tell you the truth I love his lyrics. They are better than most of what I listen to.

 

The truth is that Gackt is not ugly. I find him to be relatively handsome and attractive. As far as his music goes...I'd pick Ayumi over Gackt any day. He's not a terrible singer. His songs just don't wow me.

 

First of all, I HIGHLY doubt you really gave Gackt a chance. Ok, maybe you're just not into Jrock at all, nor Jpop for that matter, considering all your other posts in the music thread, but seriously..giving Gackt a chance wouldnt mean just listening to "one cd". Each CD he puts out has its different style. You cant say that "vanilla" is ANYTHING like "Last Song".

David Bowie. I didnt say I dont know him. I know him alright, I just dont like him, so I dont listen to his music nor watch his movies. There, happy? And FYI, I havent been living under a rock for the whole of my life, however that's none of your business.

Also, who said that Gackt's a PRO violinist or a PRO pianist or a PRO guitarist?? You should know better than to catagorize ANY Jpop star into ANY type of PRO. He's never said that he was PRO. I already said that there's better guitarists out there. I dont need your examples of who you think is good. I think you just need to be more informed about the Japanese Music scene before you go around and judging its artists.

Also, you say the japanese copied the "glam rock" scene from the US. You can think that if you WANT, but Glam Rock is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT GENRE than Visual Rock. Yes, most fans of Visual Rock are fans of Glam rock as well, but at least HERE it is not even in the same catagory.

I really dislike people who can't appreciate music for what it is and NITPICK everything to bits just because they heard a few bad songs. I dont even LIKE GACKT that much, and I wouldnt even consider myself a FAN. However, I feel that I must defend him because of your absolute ignorance of the genre and J-scene. I respect Gackt because of his voice, considering I have NEVER heard anything like it.

If you want to hear some better songs, I suggest you go and get your sister to bootleg download some of the Malice Mizer's old songs. If you dont like violin music in your rock/pop, then get out of here.
