Well, I can only recommend you on shoot-em-ups as those are the types I play most...

Battlefield Vietnam (Shoot-em-up), needs one heck of a pc to play this smoothly, but it is one excellent multiplayer game... don't buy this game if you don't have a fast connection. Singlelayer is rubbish... so don't buy this game if you intend to to only play singleplayer.

Halo, Counterstrike: Condition Zero, Far Cry, Battlefield 1942 (it's really cheap now) are ones to look out for.

My reccomended games to look out for this year yet to be released: Half life 2 (enough said), Operation Flashpoint 2 (A very serious soldier sim), and Rome: Total war (you are talking 50,000+ troops at once on map (Strategy).

    Dark Age of Camelot?
Addictive MMORPG, costs 7euro ($10) per month though, but still it's ****ing worth it!

Tell you what, save money and wait untill Doom III and Half Life 2 comes out. Than we can talk about GOOD games ;)

It *is* Hitman 2, with half as many levels, and somehow... less challenging. Heck, some of the levels are direct ports from the original Hitman on PC from about 4 years ago.

    4 years!

Its really shocking. Especially on the PS2. Id be after blood if id payed for the copy i had.

You know the console players never got to play those missions on a console, right?

Yuppers; just pointing out that this new release only matches standards of a game that pre-dates it by 4-or-so years.

That point aside - compare it graphically, fluiditity, movement and realism to a game like Ninja Gaiden and its a total joke of a "top title new release".
Maybe i just dont like the fact he can take about 40 bullets before he goes down. Well, i suppose at least you cant pick up health packs as well...

EDIT: just incase were not seeing things in the same light here - i said it wasnt a "good game"; nothing about its enjoyment to a person. You cant quantify that; but other things like gameplay, controls and graphics you can - and it falls short in just about all of those things.

Could care less. Graphics have actually detracted from gameplay in recent years due to competitors continually trying to out-do each other in graphics as opposed to gameplay. TIE Fighter is still a blast to play despite much more graphically advanced games being out there.

You mean more graphic related nonsense?

You call Ninja Gaiden realistic?! It has wall-running and magically returning weapons AND a health bar, and you think it even approaches realism?! No, Rainbow Six was realistic. Falcon 4.0 was realistic. Ninja Gaiden is NOT "realistic" at all.

You know you can replenish health in Ninja Gaiden, right?

Who the hell cares about anything else if they enjoy it? Isn't fun supposed to be the only really important aspect of a game? (One might argue that control is; but obviously a game is not fun if it is a pain in the *** to control) Graphics are by and large irrelevant in my view along with several others views; my fondness for the fan-made Battle of Endor game is rather obvious proof.

Poly-mapping realism. Not concurrency with reality - cause that would be totally boring if it didnt stretch your imagination at least a little bit.

And that whole last apragraph is of course right. but factually, it was a hash of a game in terms of any kind of new in-game innovations, twists, and surprises.

Im just saying I ( and i suspect a lot of people) would expect more for there X amount of dollars than something that was nothing more than just "the next hitman game, nothing new here".

*shrugs* Freespace 2 only used a modified versioin of the original Freespace engine, but I was more than happy with it.

And as for things not having to line up with reality... uh. Wait. You knock Hitman because the hero can take a lot of punishment... but... praise Ninja Gaiden for... not...

    ...

You need to learn how to stay consistent.

And once again, for a console player, Hitman Contracts -is- going to be new from what I hear.

Thats nothing to do with my point about fantastic circumstances in video games; just that the amount of times you can get shot in the head before you die leaves the game rather.... unchallenging.

And of course its new, just nothing original and enough to make players even consider saying "wow!"

Shen: Games like Battlefield: Vietnam isn't is a Shoot 'em up. Ikaruga is an example of a shoot em up (or shmup) Battlefield goes under the First Person Shooter catagory. Just wanted to point that out.

    Anyways I recommend the following:

-Farcry, unfortunatly with your current system, Farcry will make your computer it's *****
-Painkiller: If you enjoyed Serious Sam, you'll like this game. You current system should be able to handle it, but in low-medium setting.
-Battlefield: 1942 This game is really good, but just like previous two game it's a resource hog at times, but your computer should handle it fine.
-Serious Sam: Monster, hundreds of them. So fun If you find this game buy. Requirements aren't that much, pretty decent graphics, and very hectic at times. Cheap as well.

Those are only first person shooters I can think of that are out at the momemt. From what I heard Hitman Contracts is actually a pretty decent game, so I'll probably pick up a copy when I get the chance. Finally since Shen brought up Shoot em Ups.

There are a couple of great shmups for the PC, but they're mostly doujin games. Most popular among the fans is Sentimental Shooting, for obvious reason if know what I'm talking about. And there are those from the Touhou shmup shooter games: Perfect Cherry Blossom, Imperishable Night (These games you can't buy at a retail store).

    Well have fun shopping.
