    Title Name: Gantz (Manga)

    Author's Name: Hiroya Oku

    Status: Not complete.
    Licensed: Not in the U.S.

No. Of Volumes: 18 volumes plus

Genre: Adventure, Drama, Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Romance, Science Fiction, Shounen, Supernatural
Target Audience: Mature (May contain sex, drugs, and extreme graphic violence)

Plot Summary: Somewhere in Tokyo, there is a room. In that room is a black sphere. The name of the black sphere is Gantz. No one knows what it is or where it comes from. All they know is that it brings the dead to play a “game” of unprecedented danger and horror.

This is where are main character comes in, Kei Kurono. He is a typical high school student in a selfish world, not caring about anyone other than himself. However, he was forced to help out his childhood friend, Katou Masaru, rescue a drunkard who fell into subway tracks, both he and Katou were killed... Or maybe not. After being run over by the train, they were suddenly teleported to an enclosed apartment with others who recently died. And now their lives are controlled by the mysterious black sphere.

Inside the room they get their missions from Gantz. They also receive special suits and weapons. While these missions take place, the rest of the world is largely oblivious to them. These missions are lethal - few participants survive them. Their missions are targets of Aliens on Earth. The sphere calls the shots, and it's not the slightest bit nice. One wrong move will get them killed.

This is where the Manga and anime become different. The goal of the competitors in the missions is one hundred points. Gantz rates them and gives out cruel but funny remarks. After obtaining one hundred points there are three options. 1. Return to your life and erase your memory. 2. Get a better weapon (and return) 3. Bring someone back to life from the data pool. Getting close to someone could get a little tough. But without them how could they survive?

Conclusion: The anime first episode will make you ask what the hell is going on. The next episode will get you hooked. There isn’t much that could top that right? Wrong, the Manga gets better.

It goes into human psyche by means of survival of the fittest. Also their morals go out the window when certain questions are raised for example what happens when their target is no longer alien.

There are so many plot twists it will make your head spin. I can’t give to much a way other then that. Read it trust me.

Author's other Works: HEN, Zero One, and Strange Love Mangas

    Final Scoring:
    Storyline: 11/10.0
    Rereading Value:10.0/10.0

    Nice review.

I don't want to sound rude or anything, but you were telling me to beef up my reviews but this review is rather short. Yes, the summary was length but the thought on it were small, try using instances on why it was good. You have to keep in fact that long posts, don't always mean great. They could always contain repitive sentences or not needed info. Don't worry this isn't shown in your review.

    Keep up the work, Basher.

    My thoughts......

Gantz is an intruging manga. It has a horror/action/comedy aspect to it. It has a different plot line to any ordinary manga.

The characters are put into these death like situations for ones amusment(Gantz). What is more interesting is that this alien like world is built like a video game world except losing means death. In the beginning of the manga, the main characters were put into an unknown world and didn't know what to do. Therefore, they saw the death of there fellow comrades, fellow humans with ordinary lives now dead.

Some of the main characters have died, which is something that not a lot of mangas follow having such a likeable character die. Than the have the struggles of losing that person and they take it upon the boss of that level, which is an amazing sight to see. Might favorite had to be the Oni, boss which is around chapter 195 to early 200's, Oni ripped off one of the characters leg and arm and Kei, thrashed himm with his sword and started moving at insanse speeds, i wo't spoil any further there is much more to come.

Gantz is a different manga than its subordinates. It shows what people want to see: blood, sex, violence, nudity and humor. I would advise younger audiences to be prepared with some violent and gratitous acts of inhumane things. But, you see what a great manga is all about, it's a one of a kind.

    Read it, now. :p

Beef up your review? All I commented on was how one was short for the description.

"Your other reviews were better for this one. I think it is lacking some descriptions. It was still good otherwise."

Anyway thanks for the comments all. I will keep them in mind.

I definitely agree. Gantz has its own way to captivate its readers (Not only by using sex, nudity, and extreme violence) with its story line and amazing characters who have died. Some prudes would find its content intolerable, but the story is so amazing that you can forgive it.
