Just to satisfy my curiosity, what genre does everyone prefer to write in?

For me, it's fantasy. I like to blend in action and humour, of course, but I usually keep to fantasy.

Well, it looks like we have a theme going here. I too, prefer to write in the fantasy genre. I do have a few science fiction things, but most of the stuff I write falls in the high fantasy category.

....except for the modern stuff; I'm not sure where that falls.

I like to write romance, humor, and parody. I don't write parody very much. Most of my fanfic are humor. And I got one romance fic going on, although I'm really too lazy to update them. :p

Fantasy can be modern too. Gabriel Garcia Marquez is usually categorized as a fantasy author, and some of Stephen King's could be called fantasy as well.

Oh, I know fantasy can be modern as well as medieval. I'm just saying that my modern stuff probably wouldn't fall in the genre of fantasy, but I don't know what other genre it would fall under either.

I also tend to write things more for the young adult market than the adult market, at least in my opinion. *shrugs* These things happen, ne?

I do a lot of things, but mostly it's pretty much fantasy, though sometimes I do a sorta fantasy-horror, dark, evil, masochistic die kill burn genocide... I mean... uh, anyways. Yeah. Mostly fantasy.

I like sci-fi, technological weirdness especially. "Exploiting the Internet for purposes of evil" (though in better ways than, say, spam) is the basis for most of my ideas. If I wrote for kids I would give them nightmares... I am not a flowers and sparkles kind of person. I enjoy a good dose of gore.

I have been writing DBZ-stylish action for a quite awhile, but now I am moving to Rurouni Kenshin-stylish action. I have also been writing more humorously lately.

I always find targetting an audience difficult. I once set out to write something targetted at male readers aging 17+, but after I wrote the first few pages and it resembled some romance I read in school, I changed the audience to female readers. Then, the story got moving along and turned into crazy action stuff and I went back to the original audience.
I finally just slapped a "general" label on it.

All my stories so far have been targetted for fans of DBZ. But because my story tells about alternative DBZ-world, most of the DBZ-fans dislike my story...

Same here thought I do have a story that's a horror and another that's a romance but mostly mine end up being either fantasy or sci-fi. Even if they don't begin that way. I swear my stories have a mind of their own. -_-

And let's not forget the characters of said stories....I can never get mine to behave unless I sweet talk 'em. Sometimes not even then.

    *glares at characters*

I know exactly what you mean.
I once had the perfect plot with an amazing ending in my head, but as I wrote the story I realized that the hero would never behave the way I wanted him to, given the personality traits I gave him. A pox on thee, Adéo!

for me it can be anything. I do have a couple of ideas spinning around in my head. Right now i am working on ...well you can call it fantasy considering it takes place in my own made up world. You could also say war but that comes latter. Maybe even heroine. As far as writing goes i write what comes in my head at the time i actually write it. I might post it.

Well one thing i hate to write is romance. But i can if i need too.

my stories never have a set based plain and i will never make them.
