Don't you think it's annoying when fans don't give evidence, or give lame excuses to back up their opinions about the characters they love, and the characters they hate?

    Not really.

I do hate it however when someone goes out of their way to make a forum to complain openly about something expecting to get a swarm of agreements and attention. :D

Also just because you may think it is a "lame" reason doesnt make it so.

Plus i dont see how it would really bother a person up to a point that you make a thread about it :/ though if there reason was inncorrect (Ex; I dont like Rei ayanami((NGE)) because she an emotionless robot) then it would be slightly irritating

Most otaku I know couldn't give you a well-thought-out reason for anything to save their lives.
Seriously, though, fans of anything never want to back up their fandom. So you might as well give up trying.

Eh. It bothers me when people have illogical, unreasonable opinions - for example, they dislike a character because of something inaccurate that they read in a fanfic. I also dislike it when they make a point of insulting fans of a character they don't like. Other than that... I just find I have little to discuss with people who won't elaborate on their opinions. "i luv inuyasha bcuz he is hot!!1!" really doesn't give much to respond to, does it? So, as long as it's left at that and the person doesn't bother me, why should I care?

Of course, it's a little different if someone is going on about hating a favorite character of mine for no reason... Then, I may be irritated to the point of asking them to back up their opinion, if they keep at it.

Unless they're extremely vocal about it ("I LOVE HIM BECAUSE HE IS INSAAAAAANE!" or "HE IS A MILLION TIMES BETTER AND PERFECT!" and other such stupidity), I could really care less since it's an opinion anyway.

I think that some people give their opinons on a gut feeling and nothing else, so thats why they never really give a full explaination of why they say what they say. They just believe in something and thats all, they don't seem to give a reason why they do, that or they just don't bother looking into it.
Unless its something important then this method wouldn't bother me to much, but if it is something important then it would be better to have an explaination into why they said it so that they can back things up. Even if it's not that important then they should still be ready to back up what they said in case anybody may ask them why they feel that way.

I have to disagree, at least in part. There are a lot of otaku (and fans of other things as well) who can't or won't give well-thought-out reasons for things. That much I agree with. However, your definition of fan means that I am not a fan of anything because I always strive to find reasons for why I like or dislike things.

I've also found that there are a lot of people who, when given the chance, are willing to think about their reasons for liking or disliking something and then carry on an intelligent conversation about the topic at hand.

I agree that it's annoying when people don't give reasons for things, but often you can get them to elaborate. Admittedly, the elaboration may not be much better than the initial blanket "THIS SUX!" comment, but at least it shows some amount of thought (usually). I tend to ignore the people who won't back things up just because it's less stressful that way.

*shrug* Unfortunately, you aren't likely to change most of the people who don't give reasons for things. Best advice is to either ignore them entirely or try to get them to elaborate.

Evidence? Why do we need evidence for the things that we love? The feeling is just there. Its just there and we cant explain sometimes why we like certain things. Everybody is the same way....

Exactly! That was what i was going to say. Sometimes you just like or dislike someone or something with out being able to explain it. You just do or dont and you dont know why. Like a gut feeling, or first impression.

Hey, I said "most" and "otaku I know". You obviously do not fall into the category of "most", and certainly don't fall into the "I know" category.
Seriously, though, of all the otaku I've ever met, I think I only got a rational opinion out of one or two.
