Finally! At last! I could get a new PC!!!

    It's an 1800+ Athlon w/ 512MB ram and 80Gigs, for only $620!!

It was a pain to configure it, but i finally got it running. Oh guess what? I found this utility called XXCOPY (extended Xcopy) which let me CLONE an entire hard drive. So I copied all the data to the new drive (i have about 7 partitions) so I didn't have to reinstall a thing!

Wheeeeeeee I'm happy happy happy happy happy!

(I'm amazed! I can play a DIVX video at full quality without getting disconnected! Wow!)

$620?? How did you manage a system like that on such a low budget....?

    *grumbles at his p4-1600 w/ 256 and 40 gig for $1800*

Oh well, have fun with your new toy...I've had fun with mine thus far... :)

Pardon me, it's not $620 (miscalculated the dollar at 10 pesos instead of 9).

It should be on $700. :D

OK why so cheap? It was custom made. No big brand names like HP or Compaq or whatever. No tech support, etc. Altho the parts have warranty, i'm on my own.

The second thing. It uses an Athlon. The Athlon is EXTREMELY CHEAP compared to the Pentium 4, and delivers the same power. Just for the processor, i would have ended up paying about $1300, $1400.

Whatever the price of a pentium, it's SERIOUSLY not gonna be around that much! I've seen it for 400 plus motherboard, at a lot of places. Here, I got their flyer with me right now. A P4 2 Ghz for 189. So, I don't know about you, but the prices seem a little biased towards athlon. :D

But the reason that athlons are so cheap its because they are allot slower, say you are playing ww3 and u want to exit the game, it takes hell of a long time, pentiums are allot faster, and more relaiable, and prolly last allot longer.

But im happy with athlon. (kinda)

Sorry to Rain on your Parade.. but Custom Made computers are ALWAYS and more expensive the Compaq or HP..

NOw If you dont buy a Monitor.. just use the one you had.. there you are saving 3 to 5 hundred dollars..

But if you build a full tower no swaping old parts i Do not believe you will go below 1000$ US.. I must admit though the prices in computers HAve Droped incredibly.. but they have not droped that much where you can buy a power house of a computer for 700$ US

ummm Athlons are actualy better quality then Intels.. Maybe the new intels are better.

But there was a war between Intel and AMD a year back when they both reached the 1 GIG. and the AMD company were ALWAYs better. But they are one Huge reason that the price in computers have droped.. because they can drive intels prices down..

And when you computer gets slow like you said at exiting a game.. its becamse you dont have enough RAM... your Proceesor can only handle so much and if there is not enough Ram the slower it has to go... Well thats what i found anyway when i added more ram.. it made the comp go a world faster..

I agree with Kame. About the RAM, anyway. I had 128 on this laptop, and XP ran like...a snail on a hot day, trying to make it through a field of molasses. Don't even get me started on trying to play CounterStrike...*geeeeez*. I couldn't even get connected if I picked a server without getting an error message...and it was CHOPPY. I couldn't run OpenGL...starting up took a total of 3 minutes...all these problems. But as soon as I bought my 2x 256 chips....computer runs like...a computer that's worth it.

And yeah, there are a lot of people that swear by AMD. One of them would not be me. I can see how people DO swear by them, but since I had to settle for a PIII for this thing...I can say that I am absolutely happy with it. There's no beating the bargain prices of the AMD...but, like I said, I have yet to find a fault in my PIII.

Oh, and look for RAM and processors to drop even lower in the upcoming winter...I totally forgot what my friend told me, but he said there will be a price drop. *SIGH*...need money for my dream computer...DVD burner, and three hardrives...with a gig or more of RAM. And that overpowered GeForce4...YUM!
