I think so. The first Grandia was awesome in its time, Grandia 2 was the greatest yet, and the Grandia Extreme is totaly cool!!
I prefer Grandia 2 though. That one is my favorite. Final Fantasy downfall was, when they are making too many of them!!
FF, FFII, FFIII, FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, and so on so on!!! Stoping at this Chocobo game they making for Game Boy Advance. Thats waaaaaaaaaaay too many!!
The Grandia series are the greatest!!!

Final Fantasy is okay..... but, the Grandia series battles are far most impressive than all of the Final Fantasy games. In Grandia, Grandia 2, and Grandia Extreme, you get to move around and still give out commands. Most impressive indeed. I like Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X too but it cant compete with the Grandia series. Final Fantasy is like the 2nd greatest RPG.

Oh, and for Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger, they sucks!!!
They only got the name "Chrono" from a word called Chronologic, which means set in a different order of time.

Yeh, i agree, Chrono Cross/Trigger sux. Sure it was good in the good old days, but now deres a new generation of rpg's dat undoubtly our rank'em. N i agree with GranaWarrior, i reckon the Grandia series is betta than the Final Fantasy series. FFVII was n IS still my all time fave rpg but Grandia is so addictive!!

    In my opinion....

You can't have too much Final Fantasy. Chrono Trigger's okay.....I like Chrono Cross is better, though.

I must admit that I love both series to death, RPGs being my favorite type of game, and playing fully through all the games (well, minus ff2 & ff10), but Final Fantasy just has that edge of being around so long... Not to mention the original Nintendo Cart was my first encounter with a video game so in-depth (well believe me...it was in-depth back then).

Grandia is nice, new and flashy, and has the benefit of experienced RPG developers behind it - but it lacks the staying power of the FF series - which has re-incarnated itself superbly with each number in its installment.

From Grandia to the Grandia II, aside from plot, much of the mechanics and gameplay remained identical to the first... I think that helps tips things in FF's favor, along with Square's edge of being so established.

I must agree, however, that as FF climbs in numbers, it is slowly diminishing in some of the appeal it once had...

If I really had to push for what I'd like to see, however, it'd be another Lunar. Those were two fantastic games!

I should certainly hope so, given that Chrono Trigger at least (havent played Cross) has lots of focus on time travel, and altering time-lines.

As for Chrono, its a word meaning Time. Its not derived from chronological, chronometre, or any other chrono. Just chrono.

Personally I found Chrono Trigger to be one of the most likeable RPGs of its time, with a nice system that was easy to learn but powerful, a good, long storyline, and many likeable characters.

Cross, however, is nowhere near as good, from what I hear.

Well, I agree with everything else you said but this ;) Chrono Cross is an excellent game in it's own right, who's only real downfall is the fact that it is related to Chrono Trigger. There aren't very many connections, storywise, to good old CT, and that was disappointing.

However, if you can overlook the lack of connections to CT, CC had a lot to offer: A very enjoyable storyline, good battle system, gorgeous graphics, and incredible music. It may not be CT, but it's an awesome game nonetheless.

Oh, and FF for life. If you discount 5, every FF since 4 has had an awesome story, incredible graphics (at the time of release), and had good game play. Grandia's gameplay has always been good, but the storylines have been kinda... eh. That's my opinion, YMMV.

I was/is/will always be a Final Fantasy Fan. Why? Well, shoot, it's a great series. My reasons have already been stated by many here...and it's one of those things, although slowly becoming sidelined (let's face it, although already working on FFXII, the FF series has NOT been getting as much publicity as it has, say...when VII came out) is still great. If only because Square tries very hard to keep this series afloat. My vouch goes to the Final Fantasy series, too, because of the fact that every game is really different in execution. Okay, so, the story may seem really similar a lot, but then again, who's doesn't these days? But, fighting has ALWAYS been different. Or at least, some aspect beyond the turn-based system. FFVI and FFVII had ATB, which made the game pretty challenging. FFVIII had similar, but you never really know when the baddies get to go (plus the very minimalistic status bars). And so on and so forth. Not even counting the magic and experience system...although gaining levels in wierder ways didn't really come around till VIII.

Grandia, like BMS said, is repetitive. I mean, good game and all, but why make a system so similar to the first? I know that it's good marketing to make it LIKE the first, but where's the step up? Where's the improvement, other than in graphics (if any)? Oh, and Grand in "Grandia" came from the word, "Grandoise", meaning all show. :D Just kidding though.

I actually rank Chrono Trigger right below FFVIII in terms of all out, personal enjoyment. I love the multiple endings, and I love the fact that, well, you get to play with time. Also cool is the fact that the story is actually rather short, but you do so much that it takes a long time to get there...so you don't really get lost in the story. And the one billion little sidequests are fun too, and also add to the story, depending on which sidequests you're talking about. And not to mention a very easy, but very intricate battling system. The Triple Techs rocked too! And yes, sadly, CC does not have much to do with CT. But you know what? Final came from "End" and Fantasy came from "Imagination/Make Believe" ;).

One other RPG I would like to see in the spotlight, is Genesis. Or Terranigma, as it is more widely known. That game was awesome. It was hard, and although it seems like your character doesn't change all too much, there's a lot going on. And the fact that battles are fought in real time instead of in menus, like you said for Grandia, and LOTS of factors that you can personally affect, you get to play creator of the world. Oh, try out the prequels to this also. Another good game in "Illusion of Gaia" and a mediocre but good first attempt in "Soul Blazer".

Grandia will always be my fav...
I was so happy when I found out that they haden't changed the battle system because I liked it so much. The mana egg system was changed though - for the better!
Grandia 2 drove me a little insane because of it's annoying voices and Feena was too weird and annoying for words. I never did complete Grandia 1 (the rookie RPG-er that I am:p )
But when I completed Grandia 2, I felt really depressed 'cos I wished that it had gone on longer and that the final battle had been a little harder.....

I couldnt get through Grandia I,I tried to play it,but I got bored.I dont know if two is any better......

Anyway, the Final Fantasy series lost its greatness when it left 16-bit graphics, for some reason the recent FF games just havent been as good as the SNES ones.

    And on a side note:Secret of Mana(Seiken Desetsu II)is the greatest RPG.:D

Probably because with so much prettiness sometimes gameplay gets a little... meh. Not to say that it always happens, but sometimes it does. If you ripped out the majority of random encounters, gameplay length would be drastically shortened. For me thats always been something I dislike about FF: the frequency of random encounters. Just too damn many. Take a few steps and BAM! Battle transition!

Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG I liked more in terms of fights because you could avoid battles if you wanted to, or at least know what you're up against to begin with.

I think Final Fantasy would become even better if it began to have more of its plot left in the hands of the player. Not just multiple endings, but multiple ways to get there.

I know someday I'll eventually buy a PS2 (or 3, if I delay long enough) so I can play more FF, and I just hope an upcoming FF has more of an FF6/FF7 feel to it. They felt very very... grand. Epic.

    Anime-ish.
