Ah...the 2-D fighter. How we've overlooked you! Guilty Gear XX is a shining example of the genre we've all but left behind. There's a multitude of characters, each with their own unique style -- Faust, the Scalpel Wielding Rubber Man; I-No, the gitaroo babe; Testament, the grim reaper; Slayer, the aristrocratic vampire; and many more.

There's also a variety of modes...from good ol'fashioned arcade, to story, to M.O.M. mode, and of course, practice. In m.O.m. mode, you perform combos to keep a "Medal Guage" going till time runs out. Its wierd ^^

The game handles like a dream. Moves are easy to pull off, and you can set the L buttons to premade commands like Roman Cancel (three attack buttons) or Faultless defence (two buttons).

The game looks great, too, with distinctly anime characters, each one different from the others. The special effects and backgrounds are wonderful, too.

Sound, although crisp, can sometimes be lost in the heavy metal bg music. Also, character emotions (like "Ah!" and "Take That!") get repetitive. But the metal is nice.

My only gripe is the moves repetoir...some characters (like I-No) barely have five moves including supers, where as others (like Slayer and Sol Badguy) have easily a dozen.

Its a good game. Get it. Now.

Yeah, Guilty Gear XX is pretty mean. I never figured out what that Burst meter was for, since we had the Japanese version. Compared to the very first Guilty Gear, the action seems much slower, and the best characters were weaker or missing their best moves. We agreed that this was to balance out the game more. But because of this, my favorite characters have moved from Zato-1 (Eddie) & Ky, to Milia and Venom. Venom with the pool cue, he doesn't have much aggressive moves, but I like using that kind of indirect fighting once in a while.

If any of you seen the Japanese movie Ring, or even the American version The Ring, you would recognize the demon that possesses one of the characters named Zappa. He's the guy who fights backwards with his body arched so he sees you. When you do his Faultless Defense, his demon comes out of him and blocks for him. She has the green skin, white gown, and long black hair that is unmistakeablely that of Sadako from the movie Ring. Also, Zappa's one hit-kill attack shows some images that also remind you of the movie.

What's also noteable about his game is that you can use all the characters and bosses right from the beginning. The boss, I-No, is actually easy to beat compared to the boss from part 1 (Justice), cuz you can figure out the way one of her super attacks work.

Lol yah, its great to be able to hold an intellegent conversation for once!

The burst meter is a way to get opponents out of your face; hit Dust + an attack (R1 + an attack button, that is) and the character releases a little pshychic boom. If it hits the opponent, the guage is restored a third AND (Yes, and...) AND you get full tension bar.

**** yeah, Zappa creeps me out! lol :bleed2:

And about all the characters, yeah, you have them right from the start, but you need to work your *** off to get the EX and Gold versions :p

Yes, this game is quite the accomplishment, the pinnacle of 2D fighting. My favorite character is I-no she has a well divised grab for blockers: Just double tap forward, glide hit O to grab after which hold forward and O to kickstand them in the a** ^_^ It's all fun baby.
