Gundam Gundam shock

Ok i wasnt really into gundam wing when i first saw it (shock) But i just saw almost the whole series and i think its damn good. But a few pints not invovling gundam wing itself but the hype around it.

-I heard somewhere tha the series shown on cartoon network was made 1979 or sometime around then. Is tha true cause if so DAAAMN tha is good for such a time i mean if it wasnt anime and was released here as new i would easily believed it. I thought it was made 1990.

-It is said the gundam wing is the japanese equivalent to star wars? n popularity and style etc. Do u think this, i think its abit more like star trek with how technical and advance it is. I would put tenchi closer to star wars with all the "jurian force stuff" and mishoshi is like jar jar binks (very very ditzy)

-IS there any more apat from the waltz special and if not wha is the waltz one about.


-Anyone else think it had one of the better ending seen in a long time ?

-is the original version alot more violent?

Nah, there's a tonne of Gundam series out there. The first one was made in 1979, but Gundam Wing was made in the 90's.

Gundam Wing is like Star Wars in the sense that it's just a really cool Sci-fi type story. Although I think too that Tenchi is like Star Wars. I even have a picture of the Tenchi group dressed up like Star Wars characters.

Ryoko = Han
Sasami = Leia
Ryo Ohki = Chewbacca?

But who is Mihoshi?!? Grand Moff Tarkin?

is the waltz special any good?

do the other series have heero or is their other characters in place of him??

My final question (and no it doesnt have tenchi in it) Does anyone else think that solid snake from Metal gear solid reminds them of heero. (maybe he was inspiration for snake design.) They did say in the game anime was a major source of inspiration for its design (for the metal gear rex etc) so maybe some of the charcters are inspired from gundam wing and others.

Well theres Obviously mobile Suit Gundam ,and another series called the 8th MS team , which ive never seen but is more along the lines of Suit Gundam , and another series which i couldnt be sure about , but imho Gundam wing is proabably the best *better than MobileSuit Gundam anyhoo* as For endless walz I havent seen it but its supposed to live up to GW takes place a year after the Destruction of Libra / Peace / Death Of Trieze *sniff* / bleh

as For the whole solid snake thing , I think thats only cos of the camera angles in MSG , IE: you spend half the game starting at snake with his back against a wall , the same way as you see Heero in "Cool and calm pose #1" moaning "relina" through half of gundam wing , Coincedence or something more sinister....

As for Tenchi , I get the whole the starwars comparisons , but the Poster doesnt really compare to a freeze I saw of that bit In the Ovas *real specific huh* , Dr.Clays ship was coming apart and turning into a black hole , Tenchi uses the Sword/Lighthawk wings to shield himself Aeka and Mioshi , It looks EXACTLY like a poster from A new hope , I mean EXACTLY ...well not "exactly" but you get meh drift

On the subject of which , Cartoon Network US are starting to show Mobile Suit Gundam , and are scheduled to show the Endless Walz , does anyone know if Cartoon Network UK are going to follow suit? It only makes sense as theyve stopped toonami for the time being

Yeh my cousin was tellin me that yer man in metal gear solid liked watching Japaneese vartoons about robots or somtin , was it gundam ?? Anyone play the metal gear 2 demo ?? Such a cool game , u can jump over the railings and hang off them so the guards wont see ya , and put body's into lockers etc... , very versatile game

 

MGS does feel like Gundam wing (was just playing it) heres why


-Snake looks like a grown up version of Heero

-He never shuts up about War and the need for it or why he fights etc etc (u know tha speech heero gives)

-Loads of scenes where Snake gets some camera angle and looks tough like heero

-They both have a girl who wishes to make a difference Releena and Meril (note meril becomes pacifist during the game in a way)

-Big thing about humans fighting over machines and clones

-All the characters in both have this redeem themselves in the glory of battle before dying thing. examples vulcan ravan -Tres Zecks Sniper wolf and so on.

-Old friend of snake goes crasy (pure rage to fight) when he is resurrected in a metal ninja suit (v.cool) Very like Qatra snapping when he gets in the Wing zero (he also has a rage to fight)

-Also theres the actually admitting tha animes with big robots inspired the whole game.

In the end i feel alot of the characters from MGS where from japanese animes or movies And tha Heero and snake are very identical so maybe tha is inspiration for snake.

I saw lost in space and war in space <-- manga movies

 

Lost Universe does certainly have a lot of Star Wars parralels, some of them definitely deliberate! However, the series is really far more like Slayers in terms of tone and content... Hardly a surprise, given that it's by the same team and author, and allegedly set in the same universe.

The backstory of the Lost Ships ties in quite nicely with the backstory to Slayers Try, in fact...

 

Hmmmm, I'm about halfway through Slayers Next. I have heard of parallels between it and Lost Universe though. I can't wait to see Slayers Try

The first Gundam was against the Zion empire with Amuro Ray, Now the newest one is Gundam Wing. I loved Gundam Wing the fist time I saw it. I really want to keep it on the air on the channel where I watch it so please see my topic.

Are you sure that Gundam 08th MS Team isn't more recent than Gundam Wing? It sure looks newer.

If you wanta see a lot of Star Wars parodies in an anime you've gotta see Excel Saga.
