Make fun of Evil Dead? Do you think the good people of the community are insane? Okay, coming from me, that's probably a bad example.
Anyway, in one of my tutorials I was asked my favourite movie. Normally, I would say The Seven Samurai, but I thought long and hard about it, and Army of Darkness rose to the top.
Evil Dead is the only movie that legitimately scared me since I turned ten. Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn was not one of my favourites. I thought the story was told much better in the first movie. Most fans seem to disagree with me on this, though.
Of course, I maintain that Army of Darkness is the greatest installment in the series. It has all the fun catchphrases, and makes the jump into comic-action-horror with unprecedented ease.

Let's take a minute to look at the evolution of the trilogy:
The Book of the Dead - a college project, if I'm right
Evil Dead - definite horror flick here. Also about the only one in the genre that's remotely enjoyable. Raimi expanded the original into this feature-length creation, and achieved cult success
Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn - retells the story of Ash's disaster, eliminating some elements, changing others, and adding a few more. This is what Army of Darkness is really based on. Kind of a comic horror thing going on here
Army of Darkness - throw horror out the window, add a bunch of cheesy catch phrases and shoot a bunch of dead guys until they die again, and you get this movie. Comic action = MEGA!
And then came the video games ...
