http://www.thecallofduty.co.uk/site/forum_viewtopic.php?33.1339 beware, over 12 megabytes of large images (about 90) in game in half life 2. Haven't ever seen them elsewhere, and valve would likely not release shots with errors in them, as some of the shots there have.

quote from an .nfo file floating around:

    Heh. That still isn't out?

Would you believe I've not even played Half-Life yet? Hearing so much about it, and how it's praised, I'd wager I'd set my expectations too high.

Half-Life is kind of the Matrix of video games: Everyone seems to like it, it gets great reviews from everyone, and it's heralded as a masterpiece, but when you get right down to it, it's just more of the same thing.

I haven't either finished Half Life, but you gotta admit, it's a pretty good game for 3-4 years ago :)

No doubt it will most likely fly to the top of the shoot em'up/action table. The first Half Life sat tightly in first spot for about 3 years before it got knocked down by Mohaa (Medal of Honour: Allied Assualt).

HL2 does look good anyhow, I'm looking forward to it. Reports suggest that it will hit the shelves around November.

except the reports that have it coming out in april :D

What the "beta" has is pretty lame: if that really is all that Valve had, expect it maybe for holidays 2004

I have always been looking forward to Deus Ex 2 far more than Half Life 2, but Half Life was the shiz when it came out. More of the same? maybe. Still, nothing had been done as tightly and with as much polish before. It did an amazing job of taking an ordinary day (for an MIT grad anyway) and turning it into heck all around you. OK, maybe I loved the first few levels the most :)

re: matrix = more of the same
It was just about the first movie to be available for download on the internet. That was different ;) My theory about the Matirx is that it is so popular it offers a perfect opportunity to be different by criticizing it. It's just cooler and more original to bag on the Matrix than on Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever :D
