...At first, getting a mac is...well...not useful, since most programs are focused on Windows based PCs. Actually, I am not sure if there's a art program for Mac. Photoshop probably?

Macs are big with designers and artists. Beyond the Adobe ports of Photoshop and Illustrator, you also have the option of the ever popular Quark or Corel's Painter.

I believe a good start would be to browse http://www.macdesignonline.com.

I don't own a Mac myself, but I do know the designers here at the office are very much in love with them.

I don't use these kinda programs myself tbh, because I'm not really artistic, but this one was recommended by a friend of mine when I got my ibook.

    The GIMP for mac

Its got the added advantage of being free. You do have to compile it though when you download it from some sites. Other sites do offer it pre compiled for differant mac OS's if you wanna search it out.

There's lots of cool stuff for the Mac. Just not for gamers. Matt mentioned most of the good ones for photo editting/drawing. I believe Macromedia also has a set of graphics design tools for the Mac, but I might be mistaken about that.

I had forgotten gimp. That's another good one to look into.

Macromedia has some good multimedia offerings for Mac in way of Flash and Director, but I'm not sure if they could be classified as web art programs. Although, I do hear more and more artwork being produced with Flash because of its vector based capabilities, meaning virtually limitless scaling - SaberJ2X and Chejo can vouch for it, if I'm remembering right.

Mac does get the shaft with most software releases as everyone keeps restating. Sometimes they can be a good year or so behind, if they get a release of something at all. :)
