The title of this thread is a fallacy in and of itself. High school is nothing. College/University is nothing. Get used to it.

Anyway, I recommend finding a local food bank or something. Many years ago, I vollunteered at such a place and easily stacked up fourty hours or so in a single summer. And I didn't even have to. Those were the good old days ... when people did stuff because wanted to help, not because the government was forcing them to. Would you even bother if you actually had a choice about it?

is it really called 'community service' for volunteer work for High School to graduate? sounds like you did something wrong lol. anyways I never needed to do 40 hours. just 10 hours for Sociology. but of course I still put in lot of time at the local nursing home and retreat weekends. school kicks your butt into the real world when it forces you to work at Taco Bell. it doesnt do that hopefully...well.. if you need to pay tuition and/or rent maybe..

I remember having to do that. Started off with 10 hours freshmen year and ended up needing 40 hours during the Seinor year plus an extra 25 hours for my Kenisiology class (I don't know how we did it). Here are some things I remember. Keep your ears open, sometimes after major events the school might put out a announcment that they need X number of students to do *whatever*. Those count as service hours. If not, then check with the person in charge and see what recommendations they can give you.

What if you joined a service club, like Interact Club, Key Club, Leo Club, Earth Club, etc.? Would your community service in them count? Clubs are fun cuz you get to be with classmates or peers, and make friends too.

    5 to 20 hours? That's it?

For my high school diploma I have to do at least 40 hours.

My suggestion: Work with a food drive.

well since Halloween is coming up try working at a Haunted House or something of that sort. Churches are usually always having something you can help with and if you can't do either of those, and if ur school doesn't have something for you, you could always go to the library and see if they have a program you could help with, like reading books to kids or something.
Trust me u should be able to find something from all of what's been given to u from everyone who posted before me and a couple ideas from me. I volunteer alot and it's fun. Specially when i get to do something i like to do like singing. Anyways good luck!

Ha- IBO students like me had to 20 hours. This year, they cut it down to ten, but I've already managed 200 hours. The trick is to go to your local church or community center.

Also, your school should be organizing or giving you some options to help you out with this community service stuff. Ask the person in charge of your community service booklet.

I helped out with the school craft show and with the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life fundraisers every year when I was in high school. That got me a lot of hours. I can also suggest soup kitchens/food banks (like what Novus said) and helping at-risk kids (usually schools send out groups of students to just spend time with the kids, reading, playing games, etc). Some schools also get older kids to tutor children in some subjects. That's a good opportunity too, and it's fun.

Here, we don't have to do any community service in order to graduate. Hn. I don't think I'll bother figuring out why :p
