the homunculies are supposed to be named that way. They are supposed to represent them.

The fact that they are sins is the main point. Not only to represent

    *Spoiler!*

    a failed human transmutation

they reflect on humankind's failures. Why they want to be human is beyond my reasoning...so far. I still havent finished the series!

Human failures. This also means going against God himself, a Sin. Oh, and spelled right, along with how they were created, SPOILERS POSSIBLE!

    Wrath (Izumi's Failure)
Pride (Created by Dante, known to be the most advanced since it ages)
Greed (There HAS to be a Greed, but it's dangerous to have it around)
    Lust (Scar's Brother's Failure)
    Sloth (Ed and Al's Failure)
Gluttony (Created by Dante as a pawn)
    Envy (Originally a blonde man)

The Humunculus are indeed sins on purpose, what I still didn't get to see is why each Humunculi has the tatoo of the Oroborous. If anyone's gonna put that, please put it as a spoiler tag.

    Oroborous

    http://gretchendorn.efoliomn2.com/

"The oroborous, a snake or serpent eating its own tail, is an ancient symbol which evokes images of life, eternity, wholeness and integration. Further, this symbol has its place in Alchemy. When the snake or dragon seized its tail it united the polarities into a circle, a symbol to the alchemists for achieving solidity amongst the dualistic energies of the soul forces."

In other words, whenever the alchemists draw a transmutation circle, they're representing the oroborous. I suppose that since homunculi are created by alchemy, the oroborous becomes an integral part of them, just as a blood seal with transmutated souls.

And this explains why, in the final chapter, Gluttony's mind was erased when Dante removed the oroborous tatoo from his tongue.

Well, I understand the symbol being preety much like Al's blood seal, however, if that's so..
In between those episodes, Lust is taken as a traitor for not stopping Ed and Al. Her punishment was to be hung up, with nail (or whatever those were) that were stabbing her to stay stuck. Two of those sticks where hitting the red circles in her clothing, but the one in the middle was right in the middle of the Ouroboros circle. Is there anything to it? If there's spoilers past episode 46, please warn me that the fact goes above episode 46.^^
