Well, the way I learned to draw is really funny. I used to live for Sailor Moon:shy3: . I wanted to draw the characters, or at least people like that. I tried and I thought it was really good (now I look back and it's the crappiest stuff i've ever seen). I tried and tried, even my own characters. I didn't get any better, not noticably anyway.

Then I got back into Cardcaptor Sakura, and bought a manga (that's how I got into manga). Then I bought a whole bnch of CLAMP stuff and tried other stuff. I learned perspective from all of that. Then I developed my own eyes. And my own style. Pretty funny huh?. Now I can draw decent in most style's (still suck at shonen). I can draw good shoujo, i'm really getting into it. So ys, that's my story hahahaha!

I dont know the names of the different styles, or what they mean. But thats the way it started out for me too. I wanted to draw sailor moon. So I waited for an episode and tried to draw there eyes. It came out pretty desent for a 9 year old, and then it just progressed. I'm still working on the poses and hands though.

For me, it all began with Pokemon, as usual. ^^
In my class, I was the Pokemon master... I was the best at EVERYTHING!!

...That's when Tony came to our class... Tony could do something I couldn't... he DREW Pokemon... everyone loved hwo good he drew them... and my strange desire for perfection grew nito hatred... and I said to myself... "Doa! You WILL draw better than Tony!"

And so it began... all my people looked like sticks, had Pikachu eyes, and lumpy hair. But I kept working on it... and as I learned about more anime, I changed my style and got better.

I never looked off of anything, though... I should have, since that really helps... I taught myself from memory. :p

My brother was always into drawing, so once in a while I would scribble in books too. After the middle of elementary school I realized I couldn't draw faces so I avoided that as much as possible. Then starting in 8th grade I decided "practice makes perfect" so I decided to start with the fun stuff (eyes of course) and work my way outwards. Anime was exotic at the time, so I had that influence in my drawings that I was trying to capture. It was so hard at first... but by 11th grade I was used to drawing full faces and shoulders already. I'd save those tiny drawings which were on homework or worksheets (I drew a lot in textbooks cuz the paper was nice and smooth--and either I left the drawing there as "nice graffitti" or I just tear the page out :D). But every few years I look back at those drawings and end up destroying them cuz I'd see all the mistakes in proportions and placements of the facial features.

Between my senior year of high school and my second year of college, I created most of the drawings that I post at forums these days. My best drawings (which I will probably never throw away) were from the past 2 years, although I don't draw as much as during that drawing-renaissance I had a few years ago. Oh, and that was the time I decided, as much as possible, to not emulate or copy another artist's style.

Now I'm still struggling to draw; I need a drawing style that is quicker, unlike my other drawings which took hours to draw, erase, redraw, erase... I bought a whiteboard just for practicing quick drawing, and even scanned a pic of it (although that drawing is only on my laptop).

I started drawing cabage patch dolls before I got into Kidnergarden. Don't ask.
Then I saw Sailor moon which got me started on drawing on anime.
It's AMAZING the amount of change forma pcitrue back then and a picture now. >.< Hell, there's even big difference from pictures I drew at the beginngin of this year and the ones I draw now.

Piece of advice, pratice makes perfect. I've drawn more this year than last, tis why my art improved so much. I even began a little comic and my friend was reading it and all of a sudden she says "Do you realize how each page you did the art gets better?" :shy3:

Well I used to love drawing as a little kid, but I lost interest as I got older, but then after I played Final Fantasy VII (2 many times!) I loved the character art, and I started sketching the characters, then it went from there and I started getting into drawing manga/anime bout a yearish ago... and now I LIVE 4 IT! I use the How To Draw Manga books to pick up useful tips but mostly I just use influences from what I see in Anime and Manga.

drawn all my life. grade school was good practice, junior high was even better..(i have 2 days i don't remember..0o...) and well, my second year there i discovered comicbooks. those helped loads. really hit them up for info in high school tho. started watching sailormoon, with mild impact. pretty much did a lot of coping out of comics..slowly adding to my style. then, i found manga...and well, that's where my style started heading...my drawing actually improved alot. then, i bought an anatomy book...very very very useful. can't stress that enough damnnit.
the one consistant thing being, always drawing. i'm depressed, i'll draw or write, or color. happy? ditto, only then scratch paper works too. who cares if it's an inch square? lol
constantly draw. on everything. and everyone. they like that.

lol, yeah. My teacher used to get so mad at me, because I finished my work really fast, and then I had all these drawings all over teh pages. ^_^ I even drew on my milk carton at lunch... that's pretty sad.

well, a long long time ago, about 12 or 13 years or so, i started drawing, and some reason i had some unnatural talent that no one else from my family had, so i drew all the time. for a few straight years i drew and my abilities grew, but then i stopped for a few years. and i truly regret doing that. but then about 4 or 5 years ago, i got into it again, and discovered how badly my skills had dulled and dropped. for some reason i felt i was never going to draw good again, so i stopped for about 2 or 3 years, what talent i had left, i was destroying. so this past year i decided, im going to practice my *** off to get better, to try to get that raw talent i had when i was younger. so i drew constantly in school. my skill level had gone up, but for some reason it stopped. i was using my own memories of animes, and i was mixing them and doing all kinds of styles. but i wasnt going anywhere. so ive decided to watch and learn, and try to encoorporate all these ways ive never seen before into something of my own style. so, i practice almost everynight for a few hours. but i ran out of paper a few days ago. so i need to get some more. you know, a big box of paper doesnt last but a month or so. the 50 lb boxes of paper that have like 5000 sheets. that was a really long post that almost no-one will read, but someone might.

Out of boredom? I usually draw best when I'm bored. I'm also learning to draw in school and I hate some of the thing we have to draw. Like self-portrate. Ugh. Its end up really bad! I like to draw my way. I usually draw during free time or when I'm bored. I'm pretty bored now, so I got a feeling I'll be drawing today. Also, my big brother is forcing me to practice drawing. My aunt also taught me to draw a little bit.

Hm, my story seems pretty similar to a lot of other guys here.

To be honest, a few friends got me into the whole drawing thing (one of them is ridiculously good, he hasnt uploaded the site in a while, but visit his homepage if you want*)

Ive always had a natural flare for artistic detail, so im pretty good at eyes. In fact, the only thing thats bothers me still is the structure. So i work a lot more on outrageous poses recently, but my clothing still needs something to be desired (in fact, im just too much of a perfectionist - so every inch of clothing has to have at least 500 folds :p )
That, and im really into anime and stuff. This really has just given me another excuse to watch more ^_^

**im not sure if linking is allowed in these forums. So if you could let me know id appreciate it so i could put up the url!
