    I don't really find it that hard ^^;
    I'm still in learning, of course, as i don't take real courses. But except for the writing system, i think japanese is a little easier than other languages like english, etc.

    I don't remember at all if it was easy for me to learn or not (since it was my first language). But it did take me about one year to learn how to speak in Japanese. And memorizing how to read and write in hiragana took me about three months. Then after being able to write in hiragana, katagana was really easy to learn (it took me about two weeks). And I am yet to master Kanji.

    I took 2 1/2 years of Japanese in high school, and it was really easy cuz our teacher was easy on us. College courses on language tend to be twice as difficult as high school ones. So if you take a semeser of college Japanese, you'd probably learn what I learned in 1 whole year of high school Japanese.

    For me, learning to write in a different language is actually pretty fun. Last semester I started learning Korean, and having experience with Japanese helped me a lil bit.

    wow kind of rude there AL

    I am jealous also about the being able to take it in school thing... seraphinx was lucky, but it really is something that can be picked up by practice.

    Start by learning the 50 sounds in hiragana and katakana... they are exactly the same. hiragana is for writing Japanese items.. and katakana is for items that are not Japanese.

    Go to a local library and borrow some tapes.. they always have the basics. Then get yourself one really good English/Japanese
    dictionary.

    I would not suggest getting to far into the Kanji yet... maybe one character a week or something.

    You will be understanding anime in no time.

    LET'S TRY! :cool:
