Manga How much flesh is too much flesh?

I'm in the processs of writing my first graphic noval, its got heaps of action and cool characters, some more skimpy than others. I wanted to include a love story in it as well, but not sure how explicit it should be???

Sex sells, does this include mnaga novals as well?? any ideas??

So far I've had mixed responses from friends, but I've decided to stick to my guns and go with what I wanted. Not sure if it'll ever make the shelves but hell, haven't got anything to loose right? I've already got a request to display some work at a local art store. might post the first chapter when its complete for some feedback.

 

I think that it depends on the age region that your aiming for with this manga that should help you detemine the answer to this question.

What you could do is but in flesh like they do in some of the other manga's like in Love Hina or Tenchi (i'm not so sure about Tenchi). You draw in the flesh but you leave ouy the nipples and pubic hair. It may look a little fake but theres a less chance of you offending someone.

I've read a few debates on this whole manga vs anime thing, personally I just draw..I usually try to put as much detailed as possible. My current drawings are a part of a noval I'm writing, its a erotic noval. I'm not sure what my adult illustrations would be classified as. Is it Hentai? Does that mean any sex/nude scene dipicted consitutes Hentai?

I'm not exactly sure which category it falls in, I guess I'll just wait and see what people say when I post a sample of my current work. Stay tuned..

 

Some nudity is fine.A little fan service never hurt anyone(except maybe Keitaro.).But you shouldn't make it a total T&A fest unless it's Hentai.

 

It seems most people don't mind nudity, I think I'll keep to my origional idea, its not a T&A feast but the erotic artwork will be explicit. I'm trying to create something new, hopefully people will see it more than simply Hentai.

As parts of the book are finished I will post some just for feedback. Can't post too much :anime: after all it is still a project of mine.

Not all sexually explicit material in anime/manga is hentai... Hentai, normally, is sex for it's own sake, gratuitous, aimed at an adult audience that wants to see smut. But you can include a sex scene in an otherwise non-pornographic work without it becoming hentai.

If your story is an erotic novel, then I'd say what you're probably aiming for is erotica - which is explicit, but generally more tasteful than what gets grouped into the hentai category. You might include a lot of detail, but not focus attention on the genitals, etc. There's nothing wrong with showing the human body, nothing at all; it's the presentation that seperates hentai from erotica.

Personally, I have no problem with nudity and sex in their many forms. As I see it, I read, watch, and buy what I like - and the rest of it doesn't really concern me. If you're aiming at making money, you should consider general opinion on this - but if you're primarily trying to tell a story for fun, for your own enjoyment... Do what you want. Don't worry about what others will think. That's what artistic expression is all about.

But really, i am sure you have heard it before. . .Sex Sells. . .and take Chobits for example. . . .nudity, perversion, humor, awsome plot. What more can you ask for? Its one of the most read mangas out there. All mangas have something to do with love or some sort of sexual content.

Its not hentai untill your whole story is aimed around sex. . .as if it were a ilistrated porno vid. And if you dicided that its really that . . .erm . . .graphic. . .just stick a little warning lable on the back saying "for ages 18 and up". XD

But really. . .as long as you got a good idea, expand on that. If you think it needs a nudy seen add one, if not. . .dont. Its really all up to you and the flow of your manga's plot line.

 

Most good anime's started out as nothing more than explicit Hentai. Take Hellsing for example. Today, its about a vampire hunting organization taking on a organzation of Vampires. But it started out with a comic that depicted a early character design of Seras being... uh.... erm.... "humilitated" by two vampires who would later become the Valentine Brothers, serious villains in Hellsing, only to be rescued after her ordeal by the now star of Hellsing, Alucard. When the writer of Hellsing, Hirano, was asked about this, he responded saying he never intended it to be anything but a hentai to begin with. Love Hina and Tenchi Muyo had simular beginnings as well.

 

If I'm not mistaken, Excel (of Excel Saga) made her first appearance in Daitenjin, a Koushi Rikudou doujin that was pretty hentai.

you could have nudity its not like it realy matters just dont have like sex seens or any thing like that because its a manga look at love hina thats okay even though they went over board with having to many seens. oh yea male nudity isnt really cool if you got to do it blure it out like in GTO
