Voltron Howdy folks!

Hi guys!

Dan Jolley here, writer of the new VOLTRON comic book from Devil's Due. I got a really cool invitation to this board from Mark, a.k.a. "Sven," so I thought I'd mosey on over and say hi.

So if anybody's got any comments or questions or whatnot for me, please feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to answer.

Let me welcome you by also saying I'm thrilled at the way the comic has come together. The art and writing is fantastic. ESPECIALLY the writing. I'm really, really looking forward to the new monthly in January. (Now will that be a January issue released in December, or a February issue released in January?)

As you know from the other boards, I'ma Sven fanatic. Without giving anything away, can you tell us whether or not Sven will be a primary character in the new series, or will he take to the shadows like he did in the TV series?

Sven will definitely play a very important -- and in some cases, central -- role in upcoming stories.

 

I'm glad to hear there are definite plans for Sven!

What can you tell us about Vehicle Voltron and Gladiator Voltron (aka Voltron II) in relation to the comic?

First off,

Welcome aboard Mr. Jolley.

I have to say, your work on the new Voltron is fantastic. I really like the twist you have given the new story on how the Lions pretty much chose their pilots. It strengthens the theory of the link between man and machine in the Voltron saga.

I too have many questions on the upcoming new storyline. Will Vehicle Voltron be a friend or foe in his appearance. The teaser cover shows him crushing Black Lion---or is he catching him????

I think it is great that you have come to our little neck of the woods to give us some insight into one of the greatest 80's character.

Not much, I'm afraid, for fear of giving away some big fat SPOILERS!

Let's see... what can I say... both of the other Voltrons will appear... and both appearances will make readers happy. Or angry. Or both.

I have to maintain some suspense, don't I?

 

First off, please, call me Dan! I'd only be "Mr. Jolley" if I were teaching a class. Or respectable.

Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm having more fun than should be allowed writing this series, and I'm really happy that you're coming along for the ride.

As far as the Vehicle team's appearance... oh, man, I really want to drop some hints, but I just can't. I think you'll better understand the role VV will play, though, once you've read the new issue #1. Particularly the last three pages or so.

 

When will we see the first issue of the next story line??

Is it really coming out in January??

Yes, issue #1 is coming out in January, along with the trade paperback of Voltron: Revelations.

 

The Voltron Force and G-Force?

Hi Dan,

I heard rumors that there might have been a crossover betweeen Voltron and Battle of the Planets, and that it got shelved. Is it possible we could see this in the future? Because the teams are so similar in make up, I think it would be fascinating. (Plus, not to mention these are my two favorite TV shows growing up. I don't know what I would do with myself.)

I don't think that was ever really much more than a rumor. I know there are no plans for it now.

However, if plans were to surface, I certainly wouldn't object.

 

Hey Dan,

I have a question which seems to be on the minds of many Voltron fans.

Do you guys plan on telling more of the origin of Voltron prior to his split at the hands of Hagar?

Will we see where the mighty warrior came from and how he seemed very linked to the Alfor Kingdom??

Before I answer this, let me ask you, did you get the chance to read the Voltron #0 issue we did before issue #1 came out? It deals in part with exactly what you're inquiring about.

 

Hi Dan,

I mentioned the crossover idea on the Top Cow "Battle of the Planets" board, and Scott Tucker said they had the same idea when they heard Voltron was starting up, but that the people in charge of Voltron were not all that interested. Could that have changed? Do you think folks over there would be more open to this once the monthly gets started?

This would be an absolute dream of mine. I tell you, I would pay $50 for that issue!
