Anime I hated you, but now I love you!

Have there been some anime characters that once hated so venomously, yet you now love and adore them?

 

Well, I rarely actually hate anime characters (although there are a few exceptions, most notably, Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion), although there are many characters I don't especially like.

Okay, returning to the topic...

Hmmm...

Well, I didn't like Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion much when I first saw her, but as the series went on, she became my favorite character from them. I cannot say that I "love and adore" her, though. I respect her for her sheer force of will and like her for an interesting character she is, but if I met somebody like her in real life... Ano... I don't want to sound like spineless Shinji, but there are times when running away isn't such a bad idea...

Other then that, I cannot really think of any other anime character whom I didn't like much at first but eventually grew to like him or her.

 

Haruno Sakura, from Naruto. At first I couldn't stand her attitude towards Naruto, or even her attitude in general. Throughout the series she's changed and now I really like her.

 

Oh god, i can't believe I'm gonna admit to this <_< >_>

in the beginning, I HATED KAIBA! On the first episode i was cheering for Yuugi not him, which i look back at now was just plain old WRONG!!! I'm serious, I really didn't like kaiba. It wasn't till he showed up later and i learnt about him and his brother that i started to like him. Then, the rest is history. XD Everyone knows how it turned out. *huggles her Kaiby plushie*

 

Hm. Most of the characters in anime, in worked in reverse (I liked them, then grew to hate them ;P Like almost every character in Yu-Gi-Oh (yes I used to watch Yu-Gi-Oh unfortunately), Shinji from Evangelion, Naruto from Naruto). The one character that I can think of that I hated at first but grew to like is probably Dojima from Witch Hunter Robin.

 

Julia in Cowboy Bebop.. then I started liking her, once I saw how much she ment to Spike, and how she brought happiness to him. I also hated Kikyo, but same reason as Julia, she made InuYasha happy. ^^

 

I too hated Washu, and I could never stand Su from Love Hina in the first 2 books, but I eventually loved her! There are alot of characters but there are some I still just hate hate hate! (sae from peachgirl)

 

The very first time I saw Kikyou I didnt like her that was because she was evil to InuYasha then I found out more about her and why she didnt like InuYasha.I thought about her and everything that happend.
I understood her and she became my favorite character on InuYasha.

 

Probably my most significant feeling change was for Tomo from Fushigi Yugi. Throughout the three, maybe four, episodes he's in, I just thought of him as a "cackling queer." (Sorry if that was a little harsh.) Then, I went on a website dedicated to him, and I realized how complex his character was. So now he has become my favorite villain.

 

I used to really REALLY hate Kaoru of 'Rurouni Kenshin.' The first episode of the anime annoyed me to no end. She acted like a complete maniac. Yet when people kept giving real and good reasons why they liked her, I began to calm down. Then I took interest in the manga, and I love Kaoru in that version. Now that I do like her, I don't think I want to go back to the anime, because they really messed her up.

 

Wow, this brings back memories of when I first began my journey through Inuyasha. I despised Kikyo with an unhealthy passion, so much in fact that I used to sit around on a particularly uneventful way and think up amusing ways for her destruction (which can't be good for your mental health), but after watching her for awhile and growing to understand her and her reasons, as unclear as they are at times, she's probably my second favorite character in Inuyasha, if not my absolute favorite (I vary between her and Kagome).

 

Actually, I just thought of one, not sure what made me think of it.

Always used to hate Zechs Merquise of Gundam Wing, thought he was just an annoying character, and as Lucifer as my witness, I hated that ****ing helmet.

But when he popped back up as Milliardo Peacecraft, I started to like him a lot more.

Milliardo > Zechs

 

I really disliked Izak Joule from Gundam Seed for the first half of the show because he was such a whiny, bossy, need 'face' character and he just generally pissed me off (Not to mention his stupid hairstyle). But he later became if you like... more 'mature' and instead of jumping into conclusions he thinks about it first and acts sensibly more often. Less complaining too, (probably because he has no one to complain in the second half of the show). Though not my favourite character, he certainly was more likeable as the anime progressed.

Yahiko in Rurouni Kenshin. Brat really, but he developed throughout the series, and not to mention how much he matured during the Seishohuen OAVs. A little brat, turned into a man.

Hajime Saitou (Rurouni Kenshin)

When I saw him the first time, which was actually only a glimpse of the show (it was the first time they aired RK here, and the moment Kenshin got stabbed by Saitou was a good moment for the network to restart airing the series), I thought he was an ugly, skinny and old bastard...
Until I got to see him the second time and didn't miss the entire episode and rest of the series, I thought he was the most badass character I've ever encountered.

Well, anyway, there isnt really a character i hated, then liked, but, for characters I do hate, there is HYUGA NEJI. I hate how he is to Hinata-chan.

 

Ah, yes, hate characters...
I pretty much the entire set of Ragnarok the Animation.
All the characters are annoyingly sterotypes...

 

Sesshomaru- he was very violent. killing people. injuring his little brother. although he may do some more damage in neweer episodes of Inyasha I really am starting to like him.
